I enjoyed that - thanks Ray.
You get a sense he's trying to maintain a facade - of course he must have been hurt (personally and career-wise) by all these allegations.
But it's difficult to deny the power of the narrative that most go along with the idea that he's a 'child molester', because in 2020 - especially if you value your career - you can't even begin to admit that there's another side. If there's the slightest smell of wrongdoing - especially when the accusee is white and male and relatively wealthy - you throw aside all caution and side with the people crying that they've been wronged. Even if there's no real evidence of such.
I like Woody Allen and I'm a big fan of many of his films and so of course that colours my view. But to me, this is one more piece that deals with court evidence and quotes examples from all sides and concludes that he hasn't done anything wrong. It's hard to see this differently.
Twitter is full of angry shit right now, as you might expect. It's tiresome.

Yes, it's a good article.
Frankly, while I like some of Woody's work (even love some of it), I wouldn't say I was ever more of a "Woody Allen fan" than I was a "Bill Cosby fan", so I don't think my reactions to this are particularly biased. I absolutely do believe that Cosby did what he was convicted for doing, and I absolutely don't believe that Allen did what he was NOT convicted (or even charged) for doing.

I feel sorry for that family. Holiday get togethers must be fun. Half on one side of the room, half on the other.

that was a very good article. He made me laugh out loud talking about his situation. I must be convinced he's a comedy genius of some sort because that's one hell of a situation. the timing is interesting. Ronan Farrow's "Golden Boy" status has gone down a few notches these last few weeks. Mia Farrow has been calling for Woody's scalp the longest but Ronan's rise certainly has a lot to do with Woody being said in the same breath with those other guys. Every time somebody wanted to give Woody an award or green light a project Ronan would tweet about his sister being the victim of abuse by Allen. Ben Smith's high profile article criticizing Farrow's methods in NYT came out just over a week ago. Just this week a writer alleges that a profile she wrote on Soon-Yi had been killed at Farrow's insistence. this double whammy takes a little gleam off his Valiant Crusader status but not much. I have a friend who never really liked Woody Allen. she'd watch his movies with me but "never got the big deal". Since Soon-Yi happened she HATES him. Any discussion of him will result in Ronan Farrow's charges that he sexually abused his sister. me, I have no idea what did or didn't happen but I'm inclined to think that Mia Farrow's case was always shaky and mainly exists in a high-profile way today because her son's career went super-nova. I'm mixed on RF - it seems like his heart is in the right place in a lot of his work. my friend read "Catch and Kill" and it affected her more than any other single #metoo era thing. I don't think I've seen an Allen film since "Midnight in Paris". this is only partly because of his #metoo status. Each film I liked seemed to be followed by two I didn't. I liked "midnight..." so I guess I thought I'd be skipping two duds. I got out of the habit of seeing his films and being excited to do so.
this article has me inclined to correct this oversight. regardless of what he did or didn't do he has an uncanny body of work. the sheer number of films should be notable by itself - the fact that so many are above average is something I'd forgotten and needed to be reminded of.
one more thing. I don't agree with the writer that WA seemed contrite in that 60 minutes interview. Quite the opposite - I thought he came off a VERY cold fish. He showed the interviewer a "valentine's day present" from Mia to him. it was a photo of her entire family with actual steak knives piercing the photo where their hearts would be. Woody showed this picture to show she was crazy. crazy or not he seemed completely obvlivous to why she would do such a thing. I'm a great admirer but I think this lack of empathy might account for some of his weaker narratives. Anyway, my Dad hated Woody WAY before he had any Tabloid type reason to. I'd always see the films at the movies and my Dad would always playfully trash my taste. He often talked of growing up with radio. I BEGGED him to watch "Radio Days" a year or two before he died. I was sure he'd love it despite Woody Allen writing and narrating it. I doubt he ever watched it but I'll bet, despite everything else, he would have LOVED it.

I read the article, but I wont' comment. But these are pretty much my feelings about Allen and RF.

I had to look up Robert & Blaine Trump, as neither name rang a bell (aside from the surname). They divorced in 2007, so how old is this "black book"?

I don't know Charlie but I'm EXCITED As well as being a chicken hawk and procurer, he was also a multi-millionaire, tax evader, corporate raider, and hedge fund and ponzi scheme runner, so it's possible that some of the names in his book were people he had met in those capacities rather than his sexual predilections. What are the numbers next to the names, John?
