Quaco, 50:20 out of the whole 50:20 album. He'll probably comment that they should have added demos to the remaster.
Me? 0:20.

Possibly the most accessible of their "classic" sound? It's a good album!

I like it, and them, but with some reservations. In particular, whenever I hear Derek Shulman's voice (he's the one who comes in around 1:30 in the above video), I think who told him he could sing? In fact I wish they had been an instrumental group (though they probably would have sold even fewer records that way).

The many fans of Simon Dupree and the Big Sound! Well, yeah. Was he just trying to sing too high in GG? I just watched about six Simon Dupree videos -- to my dismay. They were musically good, but their presentation was horrible -- like, "they shouldn't be allowed on a stage in the UK" horrible (Holland or German maybe) -- and I think Derek always had that side to his voice. I think in GG he brought it to the fore because he thought it was best/strongest, when a little variation would have been good. I actually like it, most of the time, but it does wear on one.

Funny you should bring that up (it's true, of course) - I almost mentioned GG's stage presentation in my first post. They looked like they could give any of their prog colleagues smugness lessons.

Smugness -- and that other terrible thing, having too much fun onstage. Like it's all a joke. It's probably covering up for some insecurity, or thinking it's the way to mach shau, but it's pretty painful to watch. Luckily the other guys in GG were more into it. John Weathers is so incredible, and totally committed to The Music.

To be honest, it's not as bad as I expected, after that intro. It's a bit Soft Machine meets a mellow Koenjihyakkei. I'm not going to sit through more than 5 minutes of it though. Horrible synth sound.

Fuck me, are you trying to entice Yomp or summat?

Acquiring The Taste might be a better album, actually.

I'd have no trouble listening to it all - there are way worse things out there.
Hell, maybe I'll listen to it twice to see if anything stands out.

The marimba solo might be a step too far...

This is the first I heard from them and I got two more after (all of them illegal copies, mind). Not for everyday but I have no problem to play them every four or five years.
