I love all of those OK not all Bresson, I thought Balthasar was pretty meh. But the other two I've seen were both big favourites. Have you seen A Man Escaped?

I find Antonioni dull, but I suspect most people do when you get right down to it.
don't remember a bloody thing about "L'avventura" other than it was no more exciting to me than "Zabriskie Point."

I went to see L'Eclisse at the cinema and at the end the woman behind me loudly declared, "well that was SHITE". I kinda agreed with her. I think he is very much of his time. All that bourgeois ennui and listlessness is easy to bored with now. Maybe it just seems a bit old hat but at the time it must have resonated. I feel a bit like, "yeah, I get it Antoniono" Having said that I'm off to watch The Passenger next month. I'll also watch pretty much anything with Monica Vitti in it.

I can assure it didn't with me, and I was pretty much the (would-be cineaste 1965-76. Him and Godard, the two dullest directors – possibly, men – on the planet. Even snoozy Kubrick and his waltzing models had a spark of animation about him on occasion. Fuck Antonionionioni. Fellini, Pasolini, Bunuel, Bergman, Eisenstein, Dreyer, Franju, Kurosawa, now you're talking. But him and Godard (yeah, À bout de souffle is OK in parts, but Weekend? - do me a fucking favour, squire) can fuck right off

I find Antonioni dull, but I suspect most people do when you get right down to it. Absolutely not. Not one bit. But I'd expect that kind of response from a non-European. I saw Blow Up - a film I've always been pretty indifferent towards - in a new 4K master in the Odeon Cinema in Florence (with an introduction in Italian by a famous national critic!) a couple of years ago, and I loved it. At the very least, it looked amazing. And The Passenger is a great film.

Anyway. Rohmer. The Green Ray remains the only film I've ever walked out on*
*I'd have done the same for The Hangover but was right in the middle of a row of seats and couldn't easily get out

I should watch Blow Up again. It bored me to death as a teenager.

The Leopard - a really lush production that’s a real slog to get through. That’s kind of the theme with all three of these films. Rules of the Game - I like the idea of satirising upper class twits, I just found this more annoying than funny Once Upon a Time In America - looks and sounds great but it’s horribly misogynist, overlong, and narratively messy

I should watch Blow Up again. It bored me to death as a teenager. I saw it for the first time last year, and enjoyed it. It's not going to rank among my favorite films, but I did think it was very good. On the list of things that I should watch again (eh, it would take some convincing) that bored me to death as a teenager, Easy Rider probably ranks at the top.
