There's nothing I love more than to see classics run down by people whose opinions I respect.
These Facebook groups....somebody will post a film still and everysinglefucker will join in to say 'oh WOW such a great film! you're in for a treat!'. It pisses me off.

No Jeff! I really enjoy your group! You KNOW I do.
But, you know, generally - you NEVER get anyone stepping in to say anything critical. Never. It's weird.

They think any critique of something they like is an insult to them personally. I don't know if it's just a sign of them times or what but it never used to be this way. I've had people flounce from my music group over what they perceive is my snobbery.

Yeah, I've seen that kind of overreaction. You end up not saying anything at all. Ach.

I'm glad Jeff's group is there. I stopped following the criterion group. I love their stuff & it's nice having a group where people have similar interests BUT....
how ANAL are the squeaky wheels over there? every time somebody does some dorky thing a cry goes up. shit, I'll bet those guys have the neatest underwear drawers known to man.
for what it's worth, I don't give a rat's ass who likes or doesn't like "Persona". I mean, it's just a movie, right? just playing around, trying to be lively. I think it's pretty great - I understand it's not for everybody. Moddie & Jeff know what they like. just horsing around - honest.

maybe I quit the Criterion group too soon. I swear, any day now somebody is going to post a picture of themselves on vacation with all their box sets. it's only a matter of time.

That Criterion group has some good people and great writing but it's so odd the way it's all centred around what would look good as a Criterion release.

Actually, I happened to enjoy Persona the second time around. Bergman doesn't always go down easy with me but there's enough there for me to not give up.

what tires ME out is this whole "this group isn't for that" type stuff. I mean, I don't like it and I leave, problem solved. it seems to me that too many motherfucking people LIVE to lay down the law for others, you know? maybe making stupid covers is to them what Googa is to Coan - a bridge too far. me, I just scroll the fuck down, youknowwhatimsayin'?

The worst are the photos of the Blu-ray Criterion STACKS and the effusive praise that follows. I always want to say 'they only own them - they didn't MAKE them!'

I follow a "classic photos" group on Facebook. I love it - I see GREAT vintage photos in my feed. they make my day. somebody posted people at a ballgame during the 1918 pandemic. well, the comments just went PSYCHO. All these Q Anon type assholes just completely took the thread over.
I thought about leaving the group. instead I just ignored the comments and posted "nice photo - thanks for posting" I mean, it's weird but I think a lot of people use social media to sew seeds of discord. I'm not suggesting that the Criterion Anal Brigade is as bad as those Q Anon jerks just that I think they'll find something else to complain about and soon.
