This most recent study, results released yesterday, builds on the above study, verifying the Type A blood trait plus a gene cluster: We identified a 3p21.31 gene cluster as a genetic susceptibility locus in patients with Covid-19 with respiratory failure and confirmed a potential involvement of the ABO blood-group system. Can you imagine the civil war of why certain people are allowed in to a pub over the regulars? With this at least there is a chance everyone will get a chance to drink in the pub.

A pub crawl is going to be a proper challenge now, with a meal in each one. I'm up for that.

Chicagoans are being infected with a unique strain of COVID-19 that's linked to the early coronavirus outbreak in China, according to new research.
Northwestern Medicine scientists have determined that the Chicago area "is a melting pot for different versions of the virus because it is such a transportation hub," Dr. Egon Ozer, an assistant professor at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine and a Northwestern Medicine physician, said in a statement today. www.modernhealthcare.com/clinical/chicago-has-unique-covid-strain-research

Apple Closes Retail Stores in Four States as Coronavirus Cases Rise Apple said it would close stores near Naples, Fla.; Charlotte, N.C.; in Greenville, S.C.; and in Arizona
More than a dozen U.S. states have reported case increases over the past week at a faster pace than a week prior, according to The Wall Street Journal’s analysis of Johns Hopkins data. This week, Texas, Arizona and North Carolina reported record daily virus-related hospitalizations.

about three days ago I hit a real low point. I was shopping at my local Ralphs for the first time since the "Lockdown" they still had "stand here" stickers on the ground all around the store but there was no need for them to get into the place.
I've done my share of shopping during this thing but this trip plunged me into despair. Like most people I've been hearing people talk about this stuff. I’ve also been reading and signing a lot of stuff. TRUMP rallies aren't the only places that want you to know that if you contact the virus you are on your own. so, here I am shopping at the store. many people are wearing masks but almost as many aren't. the store is pretty busy. people are pretty grumpy. the entire time the store is playing announcements "we are all in this together. stand six feet apart. sneeze into your elbow. bla bla bla" something hit me and it hit me hard.
we are fucked. if anybody in here has the virus then it's going home with somebody. that somebody is fucked and so are some other somebodies. I like the "we are all in this together" sentiment but it seems like that's all it really is at this point. the financial burden of dealing with sickness? are we all together on that?
the cashiers and baggers are great. my fellow shoppers - I try to be sympathetic. this is a stressful time and stress management is a personal thing. I wear my mask, I keep my distance, I keep track of my elbow in case I need to sneeze...
but, on some level I feel weird. Something isn’t right. I mean, what if there was a rapist loose? would you just tell the women they need to wear chastity belts? of course not! but, isn't that sort of how we are dealing with the virus?
keep buying goods & services. keep voting. keep going to your service jobs. try not to get sick. wear your mask. some days when signs say "wear your mask" I hear "let them eat cake"

New interesting nuance: Officials in states across the South have warned that more young people in their 20s and 30s are now testing positive for the novel coronavirus.
This recent rise in cases among young adults could lower Covid-19 death rates -- until those young people go on to infect others, Dr. Tom Frieden, former director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, wrote in a Twitter post[/font] www.cnn.com/2020/06/22/health/covid-younger-adults-lower-death-rate-trnd/index.html

TRUMP is in Arizona. He is scheduled to address a conservative conference (waivers again but masks to be provided by the event organizers though no rules will be enforced). He is scheduled to attend some "Teens for TRUMP" type thing which I think is mostly about "the wall"
so, I think it is fair to say that TRUMP is in Arizona to campaign. I don't like TRUMP at all but he is my President so I feel like I get a say in this. Here's what I'd like for him to do while in Arizona. I'd like him to address the COVID-19 Emergency in a serious and adult way. Arizona is, I believe, one of the very worst places in the nation if not the world right now in terms of how quickly the virus is breaking out. the last time the President was in Arizona it is believed he put pressure on the state and local governments to "re-open" to help the economy. he toured a mask factory without a mask and said he was pretty sure things would be back to normal by April. well, they did "open up" and it was a disaster. they've only started a mask rule advisory this week! now, I do NOT expect him to admit how GODDAM wrong he was but, is simple adult behavior really too much to expect? Couldn't he show up too late like W. did in Katrina to at least SAY he gives a shit? I can think of no better time for him to actually start acting like a president than right fucking now. listen to people's concerns. show concern. this isn't exactly brain surgery. doesn't he care that America is having a crisis that is getting worse each and every day? doesn't he feel ANY responsibility to acknowledge the problem at the very least? I want him to. I wish he would. People ask me "why do you hate TRUMP so much?" Maybe because there seems so little chance that he do what seems the absolute LEAST he could do.

I assume your questions are rhetorical. The US is 5% of the population and we have 25% of cases and deaths.

My son and I were planning on a little trip to a place called the Russian River on Saturday. The way cases in California are increasing, I wonder if that will happen even though the majority of new cases are in So. California.
I just got lucky in reserving a cabin as the ban on short term rentals were taken off at the start of this week and I made a guess they would before July 4th week.

As of today Torontonians will be able to enjoy a boozy beverage or two on outdoor patios across the city. I won't be partaking as I no longer enjoy the company of other people, but I will be taking advantage of the fact that I can finally get a haircut. The woman who cuts my hair runs her own shop with only two chairs, so I think she'll be able to work safely, but sh'e going to be busy - I wasn't able to get an appointment until July 3rd!

PMQ is useless. For a few weeks the distancing necessarily led to an actual discussion and accountability. Straight back to yabbering crap to whip up the back benches. It's a pantomime.

I guess the first possible vaccine according to Dr. Fauci will end its trials in July.
Genetic engineering is behind the ability to gear up a vaccine in a matter of months instead of years, of the 12 various major vaccines in develop all have a genetic partner.
The vaccines fall into three categories:
1. Block Viral Replication
2. Prevent Entry into Cells
3. Reduce Hyperimmune response and Acute Respiratory Distress
