Why is a load of people protesting (about something that happened in another country) any different to a load of people going to the beach in terms of the context of social distancing? They are outside in large numbers. You're happy to say "idiots" to people going to the beach, but I didn't hear you say anything about protesting. "Oh they needed to protest" I suspect you'll say. Massive hypocrite. The protests did play a large role in undermining the rule as did the PMs own waffle. Once you start sending out mixed messages you' re done for.

That's not my point.
Criticising people for not socially distancing at a beach, but not doing so at a protest is plain hypocrisy, pure and simple.

Well they were allowed to protest in that way, the politicians were seemingly okay with it. Rather than seeking out hypocrisy from ' the left', shouldn't you be reserving your scorn for the Prime Minister and his refusal to give clear messages. After all he has more power than any of us. Your reluctance to do so might be seen as a tad...hypocritical?

I'm in agreement that the messaging has been extremely mixed - and Hancock in particular is ridiculous in criticising people at the beach but not at a protest. That is hypocrisy just as John calling people at the beach "idiots" but not mentioning the protests, probably because he doesn't want to be seen as supporting the government.

It's nothing to do with that. I'm in agreement that the messaging has been extremely mixed - and Hancock in particular is ridiculous in criticising people at the beach but not at a protest. That, however, has nothing to do with my assertion that criticising one group of people and not the other for the same sort of behaviour is hypocrisy. It is everything to do with it, why do you think the mass gatherings at beaches happened in the first place?

Maybe.
John, would you be in agreement that people gathering in large numbers outdoors isn't advisable at the moment?

Yes of course.
I would also be in agreement that pouring a bucket of water over a stranger's head is a bad idea - but sometimes it's a very GOOD idea - right?

That is not the discussion.
You are in agreement that it is wrong for large numbers of people to gather in an outdoor space.
Can you tell me the precise difference between a load of people gathering at a beach for the day and loads of people gathering in town squares and streets to march in the context of social distancing please?

But the latter did receive criticism at the time, so to say it didn't is creating a false premise.

You're taking the piss now. GOODBYE That simply suggests that you know you're being a hypocrite. It's fine - we are all at times, but I just think you were being particularly absurd in criticising one set of people and not the other when they were simply doing the same thing.

WSJ:
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott rolled back some reopening plans and Florida reported a nearly 80% increase in daily coronavirus cases, as the U.S. marked a daily record of nearly 40,000 new infections.
Florida reported 8,933 new cases of coronavirus Friday, up from around 5,000 cases Thursday. Friday’s case number eclipsed a daily high set earlier this week, bringing the state’s total number of cases to 122,960.
We're lucky the average Trumpian Texan and Floridian thinks PPE is cigarettes, alcohol, and ammo.
