Knowing it's already in capable hands makes me want to change it.
Freakfolk/acoustic psych is my final answer.

Freakfolk is a great choice, my problem will be in selecting the correct bit of chaff from all the wheat.
So, when do we start picking songs and stuff, and what happens next....

Well we start as soon as we can. Oleandermedian is having trouble accessing the site, which is why we've been tardy. I will send PMs to everyone involved, but basically what I need is your selection of seven home picks numbered 1-7, and a single pick in all the other categories/themes in your group (please let me know which pick is for which category - it may be obvious to you, but not necessarily to me). Please send lists in this format, either in the form of a PM or to rayge@phonecoop. coop : Theme (away selections only)/ Artist /Title /youtube url (just the naked url, rather than formatting it) I was hoping to start this weekend but that may be a bit tight for the hatzes of this world

I presume the interpretation of the themes that don't have rigid themes are in the eye of the selector? I mean what is a novelty song is somewhat subjective right?

I presume the interpretation of the themes that don't have rigid themes are in the eye of the selector? I mean what is a novelty song is somewhat subjective right? Well, I don't believe in objectivity, so perhaps I'm the wrong person to ask , but my view is that people can interpret things any way they like, and voters are free to vote against something because they think it does not fit the criterion, but that ultimately this is meant to be fun (for everyone except me ) rather than a nerd fest. That said, when someone has been so specific as you have, in actually providing a list to choose from, putting in a track that doesn't meet the theme should be penalised in some way. As for the novelty thing, well, I agree that there's no such genre, really, and that records I've thought of as basically mainstream have been dismissed as such by others, so I'm happy to take on anyone's ideas about what novelty is, and for the voters to decide who is 'right' in every case. I don't really care who 'wins'.

So, to give you a little insight into my theme, California. I am open to not just entering songs about the state, but also cities, neighborhoods, streets, or landmarks within the state, like Monterey by Eric Burdon or Dock of the Bay, to give two examples.

But I'll try.

Just wondering - is this a one-round thing? Or should we keep some aces up our sleeves for (semi-)finals?
