Fantastic match! If this is a sign of what's to come under this cathegory we're heading for some good time. Of course SJH gets my unconditional love, but sadly B falls short to beat the blasting party of

A was so frantic, that it tired me out just listening to it. I like its spirit, but if I'm honest it's not something I'd ever listen to for pleasure. I don't have much to say about B, other than its really enjoyable rock n' roll and definitely my favourite of the two.

Both great, but I have to give this to
A
which has been a favourite for a long time and manages to send the usually unbeatable Screamin' Jay scuttling off like a sad mouse

I like Screamin' Jay, but A wins it for me.

I can see Rivington from the window of the room I'm sat in, must be about 6 or 7 miles as the crow flies. It made national news back in the summer of 2018 when the moorland caught fire and burned for days on end. I remember the smoke enveloping the house on some days, there was nothing but grey to be seen in any direction, but the smell was quite pleasantly fresh and green. Anyway ... The Rivingtons are also on fire here. Cheers. Probably the best track of the cup so far, so much energy, that insistent vocal and the reverberating bass burning rubber.
B is surprisingly not too bad, either. Feels a bit more generic, and for all the silliness, the vocal isn't half as unhinged as that of A. But it's pleasant, as far as this kind of early rock n roll goes.

A is just what we need more of in rock. A spoken word nonsense bass voice who sounds like he's shagging on a washing machine. I like Screaming Jay as well but this one is pretty forgettable.

Boooooooom! Fabulous first match!
I'd love to give it to B for SJH, who is a personal fave, but A is just too good in so many ways. The vocals are magnificent of course, but the band is on fire.

Yeah, I don't like B quite as much as G does, but I agree with him about A - a bit too frenetic, and ultimately just a copy of the better-known hit, and ultimately just not as good.
B feels a little restrained considering Screamin' Jay's rep, but it's the more fun of the two.

I love both of 'em, but I'll give the edge to B, because, well, it's SJH! Like others, I'm really looking forward to more matches in this category.

I wonder if that vocal style in A is based on a country (or, perhaps more darkly, a slave) auctioneer? Anyway it's crazy, but so is Screamin' Jay, who I thought would get an easy pass in this match-up due to my longstanding affection toward him but I'm not sure. I think A is just more fun.

B by a margin. A big margin.

I don't think I quite grasp the idea of novelty as a genre, as my pick will soon reveal, I don't understand what about them makes it "novelty", but that's fine, I'll learn a lot here. I vote A, a belting song in all honesty.

I like both, although A gets a bit overpowering after a while.
