I have difficulty with stuff like A, which tends to be highly venerated by a certain kind of music fan, but which too often just feels like something very old and tasteful..I have difficulty getting excited by it. That said, there was a warmth to the record.
B is one of my favourite records, the arrangement alone is genius, and one I've written about quite a lot in the past. However, I don't know if the picker is trying to make a point about eschewing obscurity for proven quality or if they just couldn't be arsed, but it's a very unimaginative pick and puts me in a quandary. In fact I seem to remember having this internal debate the last time he picked it!
With reservations..B

A
B is not really about the weather, and I'm hardly a stickler for those kind of things.

A is pretty standard-level Ray Charles, but that's a pretty high level.
B is great, but it's a first-draw pick off the Google list of Songs About the Weather. Between BCB and here, we've pretty much milked it to death already.

I agree with what the others have said about A. It's no great shakes.
Are we still on about 'obvious picks'? I don't really get that from this one. It's popped up a couple of times on old BCB cups, yeah, but...whatever. It's a winner.

Hmm, yeah not sure if B is about weather, really. More about zeitgeist. A is an enjoyable RC tunes, and i've been playing him a fair bit recently, so...

Hmm, yeah not sure if B is about weather, really. More about zeitgeist. A is an enjoyable RC tunes, and i've been playing him a fair bit recently, so... A (truth to be told, A is not really about the weather either, you can replace "Snow is falling" with the standard "I up this morning" and result would be the same )
Anyway, B has achieved a well deserved status of classic, although I have always found the mid section a bit out of place. And again I'm not going to rant against it for being a well-known track.
But come on, listen to A, how it builds up from the easy going blues piano at the beginning to the full blown horns at the end, it's a blast. As hatz said it is a standard RC track, but that's a very high standard.

A is run of the mill Ray Charles..B is just so obvious and has been used in cups fairly recently....Ugh...Vote B, but let's all agree to retire this one in future endeavors..

I really wanted to vote A but it's just well-mannered blues about naff all in particular. I'd really like to have known what listening to things like B was like at the time circa 1968/69. I just can't divorce it from the adverts now.
Ah well, B

I got the Sunday afternoon nursing home blues. Blimey, he could have done with a few lines of the stuff to perk him up.
And I really don't like Something in the Air, a very ELO kind of dirge. It doesn't sound very weathery to me.
Abstain.

I was hoping to get through the whole list of ties today, but my enthusiasm is waning so this might be the last one for the day. These contests seem to have become very uninteresting with seemingly very little chance of finding something new and exciting amongst the draws. It's still the first round however, so I'll try not to get too down on it all just yet.

As much as I like B, it's gotta be Ray

I think B is one of the best pop songs of all time. It really captures the soaring optimism of the period so beautifully well and that moment after the ridiculous (but brilliant!) piano solo where the whole record just magically comes together again is one of the greatest moments in pop for me. At that point you might actually believe the revolution was possible. Wonderful, evergreen, stirring stuff.
sorry A but no brainer....

I love Brother Ray but I’m a Boomer so I’ve got to go with B
There really was something in the air, you know. Corny but true.
