Sorry Dave but I genuinely don't understand what you mean. How do we know that a song is about food (thematically or whatever) if it's NOT in the title (or the name of the group, or the album)?
How can a tune sound like food?

I guess Dave's expecting a recipe in the lyrics. B not only talks about a girl who makes polk salad, but also about her granny being food for the gators, there you got the theme twice!
A is nice but a bit too light, often their instrumentals lack some meat (there you go again). Think I'll give it to

As always with Cups, Os, the suitability of any particular tune is up to both the picker and the listeners.

Jesus H., folks, forgive me for my obviously mistaken understanding that a food theme translates to songs that refer to food thematically! My bad! Hey, if a title is good enough for you, more power to you. But then why are we bothering with a theme if it's just gonna break down to which song you like more anyway? Isn't how well you meet the theme supposed to be part of a thematic cup? When I proposed this whole shebang to start with, it was with the idea that people could interpret the themes any way they want, and vote for any reason they thought appropriate - basically which one they liked best. Although your idea of the one closest to the theme is just as valid, I don't see any reason why there should be rules about how anyone should choose to award their vote. And the reason why we're bothering with self-generated themes is because we couldn't agree on one that suited all of us. I was surprised by how many people chose a subject, rather than a genre, time or record label. I always thought the away guy should have some more leeway, but in some cases, some of the home picks have only a tenuous, to use your word, connection to the theme, far more so than in this case.

Two great selections. A is an absolute blast, as lean and nasty as the MGs got. B is very good too, a very southern blend of countrified soul with a great drum sound. A has a bit more immediacy and bite to it though.

Damn fucking fine match this. A is, as mentioned, as mean and lean as the MGs got, but I have a huge soft spot for B, which always brings back memories of the Elvis version I listened to as a kid. Bonues point for the gaturs eating granny.

Both vaguely familiar from half a century ago. What was it with Booker T and food - I had Green Onions on the short list for this theme? Anyway, some nice stinging guitar from Mr C. Come to think of it, all the food tracks so far have been acts from the US South TJW was a little too Down Home from British tastes, but I do remember this one getting played a bit. I wasn't overly impressed with its Southern Gothic overtones then, nor am I now.
A I think

I was going to give my vote to A anyway, 'cos Hatz is talking out of his arse, but - like nearly all MGs tunes - it turns out I prefer it anyway (altho' B IS pretty good) AHatz is the new Penk. B please Bob! I really like it. BBBBB
