A is clever. B is the Police.

A is a golden oldie and B is the Police trying to be socially conscious. I didn't really like the Police song when it came out and this doesn't really make me change my mind.

B, easily. Even tho' it's Sting and it's heavy and it's proggy, it's always worked for me.
A is something I heard on BBC radio quite a bit as a kid (a theme to some show?) and it bugged me then and it does now.

FFS..Aren't there better songs about machines out there ? Do we really need a freaking Typewriter song ? Do we really need a Police song ? (And not even one of their better ones) ...Abstain

Yeah I feel exactly the same about A as John, it's just annoying. Disappointing as Leroy Anderson sounded like he was going to be early Blue Beat or something! I can't say I like The Police track much either, it's ponderous and heavy handed, but it does sort of will itself into making an impact. I'm mildly curious as to how it fits the theme - I always thought it was about Northern Ireland!

Long time without hearing hat specific Police song and I have to say that IMO it has aged better than most of their output. On purely musical it wins here, though I'm with Hatz that the connection with the theme is rather questionable. A is just a joke that stopped being funny after the first 100 listens, and unfortunately it was a theme to a radio show in Spain too.

Well, I know A as the intro music to The News Quiz on radio 4, but it's not something I really want to listen to on its own merits. In fact, bereft of context it feels quite smug about itself.
I guess B has a reference to a factory, but it doesn't seem to fit the theme at all, and it's a bloody horrible light-prog thing. I guess this is something like The 1975 would do now, the words sound like they're protesting against something, but they're written in such a junior-school kinda way that it's vague and pathetic.
However, on the basis that A is smug and old, whereas B is practically from the future given the selections so far, I shall give it a reprieve, and merely abstain.

A
Sonically I didn't mind B, but it's not even one of the better songs about The Troubles, let alone machines.

Sorry, but this match has me baffled for a few reasons. I may have to come back to it.

I never listen to the radio, but I have heard the typewriter song before. It's very slight and I never need to hear it again. As far as I know, I never heard B before, but it's not anywhere near good enough to overcome my prejudice against the band, or at least two-thirds of it.

B
One of the better Police songs. Very different to their reggae-lite and pop grooves
