Well, I got through both - the cartoonish one and the overlong guitar workout. Disappointed in how this theme has been handled. Not a single actual (non-Nick Cave) Murder ballad so far...
B holds a lot more for me, but there are many other better Thompson songs that fit the theme better, and that's a particularly uninteresting version of it. (Fretless bass? Really??)
Meh.

B is about Brady & Hindley if an elaboration is needed.

A Woah, brilliant beginning; anything less reminiscent of lard, unless applied to a greasy pole leading into a pit of adrenaline, I can't imagine. I'll have to take the word of whoever picked it that the lyrics have anything to do with killing, although it certainly sounds like it should. I only just realized the vocal is in English. Ah, I looked it up, he's the Hungarian guy who derailed passenger trains for sexual gratification. I thought it was wonderful. B Doesn't stand a chance against that, but for the sake of form I'll listen to it, and in truth it wasn't bad, although on the whole I prefer to have records rather than live performances in cups. And I don't really find RT's voice very affecting. But I listened to it all without wincing. Which, from me, is not faint praise.
Still A, though

I'll come clean again here, it should be fairly obvious that A's my pick here, anyway. The trouble was that I have so many songs about murderers, none of which would stand a chance in a cup, that I thought I'd pick something with a more interesting, less well known killer. And it's slightly more commercial than most of the industrial stuff, though I did almost pick GGFH's "Room 213" in the hope that a Hildegard von Bingen sample and snippets of Jeffrey Dahmer would win the day. Silvestre did indeed derail trains for sexual gratification, and is rumoured to have 'gone missing' at the end of the war with the complicity of the Hungarian government in exchange for his expertise with explosives. Who knows. I know the cup would be severely lacking in loud guitars, anyway.
Given the Moors Murderers connection, TG's "Very Friendly" was an obvious candidate for me, and it wouldn't surprise me if The Smiths were to make an appearance soon, with Morrissey's criminal pronunciation of "Hinderley". This sounds like latter day Nick Cave. It's not as bad as I expected, to be honest, even if it's got far too much wanky rawk guitar (as all Dicky's stuff seems to have), but it's not a patch on a combination of Jello and Ministry, surely?

This was my attempt to play the crowd, with a Proper Big Geetar Hero. I should have chosen Carlo Gesualdo. Ah, you live and learn. At least I'm beating yon fish in the return leg.

Don't worry, John, the hatred of loud guitars round here knows no bounds, the tide can soon turn. All hope is lost in the other, having said that, it seems that away votes count more than double.

Ah stop complaining. People don't have to like this stuff, just like you don't have to like old soul records. Your selections are generally getting more support than mine!
