A is not working, but I did find this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pp5OklxiqjkI like both, but B is a bit standard for that kind of thing. A is seminal, and all those fusion Jean-Luc Ponty types should be bowing down to ol' Sugarcane for turning the violin into a viable rock instrument in the first place.

Thanks, hatz, I've substituted that - the original wasn't working in the UK either.

I know of Don and Dewey on Specialty Records so this is interesting. On Specialty, they did fast paced, manic Little Richard type of stuff, but even more crazed, if you can believe it. I didn't really like B a whole lot.

I quite like B and I especially like her voice but it strikes me that it's a very personal choice.
A is aces.

A's quite boring, despite the effort that's gone into the violin work. Just an uninspiring standard blues trudge. Seems a shame to have encumbered the fiddler with that band, would've been better just solo.
B's veering too close to country for my taste with that fiddlin', but the vocal has an interesting cadence, and it's just a more interesting choice of track.

A most easy win for A, I found B very boring.

The violin playing on A is great, it's a real shame the rest of the band don't bring anything to the table. They just go into this its nightclub vamping thing, almost burlesque. It had the potential to be so much more. Difficult to know what to say about B..the girl's pretty! It seemed trapped in its own tradness, it never really came alive. A

B is quite lovely even if I didn't understand the lyrics, which is usually a major hindrance in this type of folk, but the prettiness of the fellas was enough to watch. Anyway there are TWO violins here, so it surely has to win. B.
A is just trapped in its own soulness, it never really came alive.

When I saw this match I though I was definitely gonna go for A - love Don and Dewey - but B has really grown on me. There is a real European folk feel from the violins here, which had me feeling nostalgic for some of the music I grew up with as a Greek Aussie. While I don't enjoy a lot of Franco-pop, this was no problem, so i'm going with B.

A This track is the first time I ever heard amplified violin, and it made a deep impression on me. I'm not sure what the objections are about the band: it's like rejecting a painting because the canvas is a bit mediocre. Apart from Dewey Terry on the orgna, their just there to lay a foundation for Don to let rip over.
B The first folk fiddles to appear in the cup, and even they have got pick-ups. They make a nice sound (although I'm not particularly fond of the vocalist), but, as with Cortez the Killer in round one, Soul Motion, on that evocative Red and yellow Sue label, was so much part of my personal listening and record-loving development that I cannot gainsay it.

A.
Close though. A's similar to other stuff I've heard. Not the most exciting. The violins in B don't add too much.
