So, do i get to go head to head with JC for the Preludin Cup final? Or are we pretty much done and dusted now?
I don't know what to do with it, Ange, tbh. It was an experimental format, and I feel that with some tweaks, which I'll eventually get into on the post-Mortem thread, it could become a decent long-running feature. The reason I split it into two groups of eight was the sheer volume of ties a 16-team league would generate would mean it covering thirty weeks or more, and I thought interest would wane, as it does so often in cups. Also, my natural instinct is to be non-competitive, because getting competitive turns me into a nastier person – or, at least, someone I'm less comfortable with being, but that's a side issue: what I was trying to do was find a format or structure to stimulate discussion about music or at least to promote, slag off, or discover tunes according to our disparate individual tastes without alienating people. While it had the structure of a competition, or a game, I wasn't really focusing on winners and losers - we all knew that you would win anyway – so I didn't think it through that far. And to take your suggestion more seriously than you intended, if there were to be a final, the first three in your group did better than JC in terms of points, so maybe it should be the four of you
I wish i had more time to help out, and run Cups like i used to. I fucking miss it, doing things like Jazz, Blues and Soul Cups or the other couple i organised. My new job here in Aus just takes so much more of my time than my one teaching in HK did, and posting online is one of the main things i've had to cut back on.
Sorry to hear that Fange. New jobs are always demanding, hopefully it will settle down a bit in time. I'm happy, at the moment anyway, to run any future ones or even this final if Ray doesn't want to do it
