I might be alone in this, but I'm enjoying the way this format throws up combinations like this: where else would you find mid-century fiddling Western Swing up against 1970s funk? Hell for Darkness Fish,I know, but overall a lateral-thinking tonic. Anyway, I still haven't voted all of round two. I'll be back

Yeah, it's bringing up some strange match-ups!
I kind of like A but it's the accompaniment to an old Buster Keaton film or something. I mean, probably not really, but you know what I mean.
B is a fave anyway - those JB Funky People LPs are really great comps.

Two songs actually about food! See, it can be done!
I agree with what's been said about these kinds of matches. That's what I was hoping it would be, not just a bunch of instrumentals with food titles.
Anyways, both great, but A is hitting a deeper pleasure spot right at this moment because it's a little more off the usual Preludin track.

A was one for the afternoon tea dance. It's all a bit too quaintly antiquated for me. B is great fun and I always loved the jazzy soloing on JB/JBs records of this time. It's all about the contrast between the tight, repetitive grooves and the free flowing playing on top. B

Excellent match! I was a bit worried that A would be cornball country, but it's actually a lovely slice of swinging country groove, with some great rocking guitar and piano. B is from a fine album that I haven't played often enough recently; as G says, the jazzy playing is a highlight and a joy.

Well, I guess A is a different kind of selection from the majority of the musty platters we've been fed, and it does have a bit of life about it, and it certainly does have a real swing. I wasn't really aware of western swing, and I do like the way that country and jazz unexpectedly fit so well together.
And B actually quite pleasant, too, though a bit aimless and pointless. Could've been more fun if that main trombone (I think) line was a bit more adventurous. Still, Eric B and Rakim clearly liked it.

I agree about the good quality of the tie. Both could get my vote on any given day. Today it's

Even though I knew there was thing called Western Swing that was supposed to b one of the founding ingredients of rock and roll, I never actually heard any until I was working on Jazz Greats in the 1990s, and I became a big fan. No bigger name in the genre than fiddling Bob wills Wonderful guitar and piano, and it swings like a motherfucker, as I believe the young people say
How much more interesting these guys are without the pompadoured megalomaniac doing his strict tempo grunting and gurning up front: Theme from King Heroin' is a great instrumental. This one is a bit less my kind of thing than that - one for the soul boys and mods to nod off to. Doesn't really go anywhere, as others have noted.
Gotta hand it to A
