I don't really care about these categories, or genres, or whatever - but A has fuck-all to do with folk of any kind and I don't know why it's here.
I kind of like this Callier fella. His music - or what I've heard of it - manages to be both timeless and ancient, there's a real heavy soul there. It's stimulating stuff. And this is a fine choice.

I found A terribly annoying. Couldn't make it through, sorry, just skipped here and there to see if there was something to hold on, but no success. Not that I am too keen on B, but at leats it's not a disgusting noise.

I guess I knew A wouldn't be a vote winner, but I also figured a lot of people would just pick folk tracks, rather than freakfolk, which this most certainly is. They certainly did more acoustic based numbers than this, but this whole album was more about trying to capture their live sound, which was more electric, but also more akin to some kind of communal gathering with elongated jams and wig-outs. I think it's a beautiful shamanic swirl of styles and an outpouring of love and joy, maaan. I really don't understand how you can't love this, there's something wrong with every single one of you.
I'm still kind of down on Terry Callier after that track with the sub Des'ree lyrics was used in a BCB cup, but I don't mind his folk stuff. This is quite lovely, as it happens, fairly simple but pretty and effective. Certainly not freakfolk, but it's a good less-obvious pick, even if it's kinda BCB-core in the artist. Good choice.

A is quite good once it gets going; that hippy jam feel is warm and enjoyable, although it's not something that i would really buy or seek out, tbh. B is TC fabulous folk form, pretty yet moving, very ethereal.

I can hear some Native American or even Aboriginal thing in there. It's coming from that hoe down side of folk and seems to fit fine. Now if you'd have said that muso King Crimson thing from the last round had nothing to do with folk I'd have agreed.

Anyway, A throws a lot of things into the mix - Native American chanting meets camp fire hoe down meets sea shanty- and while I admire its idiosyncratic nature, the results weren't always pleasurable to listen to. My favourite bit was the more tranquial, pastoral interlude in the middle with its gently psych feel ( shades of XTC/ Beta Band). I kinda wished the whole track had sounded like that..which may be missing the point of what they were attempting to do with it, but there you are. I prefer TC after his debut when he teams up with Stepney. But this is fine, though not particularly "freakfolk" (at all if I'm honest). Decent enough song , but a little too trad to really suit TC, although as always beautifully sung with his customary honeyed warmth. A minor track in his catalogue but does enough here...B[/quote]

Nothing particularly 'wrong' with B. Nice voice, certainly, but the freak quotient is nil and over all it's on the dull and worthy side. I didn't make it to the end.
A, on the other hand, is as freaky as all get-out, full of folk tropes and instruments, and creates a tribal hypnotic groove effortlessly, I like the unintelligible vocals, too. Can't say I'm going to rush out and get all their many albums, but this is a real find, a 21st-century hippie band I can believein. The pastoral bit in the middle is lovely, too. Great track, cheers

A is a lot of fun, and definitely more on the "freak" end of the folk spectrum.
B is pretty, but once again, it ain't "freak folk".

Thing about joining a vote late is that most of what you'd say has already been said.
I kinda enjoyed A right up until the bloke started singing. I kinda enjoyed B right up until the bloke started singing.
I would have preferred B musically but the lyrics made me visualise a solo, American version of Mulligan & O'Hare. Soz.
A, then.
