Hmm. Yep, finding it very difficult to say anything about this at all. It's ok, apart from the vocal which is mercifully sparse.
Never heard of B, but it's very much a well crafted song of this glitzy soul type o' thing. Not my cuppa, but it's light years ahead of A.

A is a deep cut by the artist that lends class to everything they do, and it benefits from their minimalist approach. Though I guess it's a well-known song, they make it their own.
B is nicely produced and performed, but the song doesn't engage me as much.

The MGs were one almighty combo, but this is a flimsy piece of work. And I hate it when a lead instrument takes the vocal melody. It's always going to sound naff, even in the hands of these fellas.
B is way better.

A sounds a bit tinny and hollow for some reason..B has a nice, powerful vocal..Never heard it before..Works enough..Vote B

Whilst it will never better The Isley's version, I really like the cool modernist strut of this version with its stripped down feel. It's like a Barnett Newman painting! B has a great production and vocal but it's in service of an unmemorable and quite clichéd song. Unfortunately Stax would sometimes fall down on the songwriting.
Easily A

Both meh.
The guitar in A sounds like a child’s toy, but I’ll give it the vote.

Both lesser-known examples of what made Stax special

Yeah, A is fun but i'm with JC on the "instrument doing the vocal" thing; it's so hard to top in a good song. B is something i'm glad to see, as MJ did some fine 70s soul records that seldom get mentioned.

B is is a good but not particularly distinguished pick and anyway
A
has got such nice sounds and is really giving me a lift what with coronavirus out there stalking the flowerbeds and boulevards and the fact one of my picks is getting trounced like none of my picks has ever been trounced in my entire cup history, Mother Ship and Rebel Pod combined. Fucking bastards.

B isn't my thang at all.
The high organ replacement for vocals takes a bit of getting used to. Apart from that I like it, it's a good tight version

Booker T & the MGs peaked with Green Onions. By the time this came out, they had lost what made them special. Nope, not for me. Crap song too. The track list of that album is a nightmare. Kill it with fire.
Female singer with proper soul chops, at last. A bit of an undistinguished number, and that Ray-baiting Stax tendency to overdo the horn charts and put them too far forward in the mix so the singer has to stretch over them, but it has nothing to beat here.
