I'm a huge Roxy fan and I bought Country Life when I was barely into my teens (something to do with curiosity and Whitehaven Woolies' limited selection of cassettes). But B was always a bit too strident, with too much pomp and forced Ferry wordplay and not enough playfulness. Evidently Eno-free, then. Not a good thing, in my book.
A is pretty good, despite a stoopid title. I don't know a damned thing about it, can't get a feel for the time or anything. It doesn't matter.

I-F is a Dutch DJ and the song is an early example of Electroclash (combining 80s Synth with 90s Techno / House) This track is from 1997

Not sure that B fits the theme that well - it mentions drugs but isn't really about them, per se - but it's so many miles better of a song that there's no question how my vote's going to go. Couldn't disagree more with Coan, I like the 3rd & 4th Roxy albums best. Great vocal performance; passionate and dispassionate at the same time, as well as the great Roxy trait of imbuing simple chords with sparks of dissonance.
I just find A annoying. Thank god(s) I wasn't high while listening to it.

I stopped listening to B with that horrendous pronunciation of jewel.
A is a great choice, this is how I remember the nineties.

A is far too long for what it is, not exactly being choc-full of ideas, but it's such a catchy thing. That dispassionate vocoded vocal mutter with the burbling sequences just rumbles along so pleasantly, and that high-pitched synth line that sounds vaguely like the theme tune from Knight Rider. Long overdue a track that wasn't first released on wax cylinder, or music roll, too.
B's a dreadful mess, sounds like Stevie Wonder supplied a backing track and a bunch of complete wankers vomit over the top of it with fucking wretched prog wankery, topped off by Brian Ferry's repugnant enunciations.

Not wild about either here. A was a little too late 80s video game for me and I'd rather hear that minimal techno style done by some of the Detroit masters, this felt a little second hand and second rate. B is a curio for me as it's one of those Roxy tracks which doesn't quite work as a whole, even if I like single elements within it. It does create a desperate and sleazy sounding milleu though and it's one of those tracks that seems a clear precursor to post-punk. It's more vital than the oddly peripheral A anyway.

Geezus, over 6 minutes of farting synth, not for me, thanks. B is a mess, true, but a glorious one. Love this track.

I liked the stoned vibes and the bleeps in A, but then it just went on and on and on...
B isn't prime Roxy, but it's great!

A is ok though not something i would really search out, i'm afraid. I like Vaporwave and i like the 80s elements, but the trancier elements aren't my thing and make me think of goods other than grass. I'm a fan of Roxy and B and it does more than enough here.

A feels like reheated Blue Monday. B is clearly the better track but is stretching things a bit theme-wise. I may take a dimmer view of such things in later rounds, who knows.

That beginning riff reminded me of Wavis O'Shave. Just saying - the rest of it nowhere near the North-Eastern Mozart with the Anna Ford fixation. This is all right, a bit twitchy and fuck knows what it's about, but the odd nice noise in it
I was really fond of Roxy in the early Seventies, and played Country Life and Stranded a Hell of a lot (although For Your Pleasure is the only album of theirs I've bothered with in the last four decades), but seeing this title brought nothing to mind. And listening to it, I realize why. It's fucking ugly, and I probably skipped it after one appalled listen. Love Phil Manzera to bits, but that's a horrible guitar noise at the beginning, and I'm with Rodya on Bruin Ferrari's mangling of words to fit the affected scansion of his words. And what's with the strangled cat violin playing from Jobson? Jaysus wiped. Bring back Eno. And the only connection with drugs is that it makes me want to take some to get away from it. No, this can fuck right off. Horrible. Not contrary, just right

you people are whacked! it's B by a billion percent! I prefer when Ferry did it solo with a more syncopated sort of groove but this still rules. for me it's the vocal. I just love when you can hear him squinching up his face.
