I think someone on BCB introduced me to Tony Williams a while ago. The sounds in that thing really fire up my synapses. Is that the right thing to say? You get me, anyway.
A is OK but I'm starting to get a bit burned out on that sort of tasteful 60s BN lark.

A pedant notes: B wasn't actually released on Blue Note.

Neither are particularly 'enjoyable" listening, but B seems particularly geared toward ditching melody and harmony entirely. For ten minutes.
A is closer to my pleasure center and shorter, so there we have it.

No. Just no.
And not voting for B as it isn't Blue Note. And no.
(*Edit: that's a definite abstain)

Ah, bugger, I'd written a bunch of stuff here, and accidentally closed the browser. In summary, I thought A started slightly cheesy, but quickly developed into the best new-to-me jazz track of the cup so far. I love the repetitive piano, and each solo properly flies, though when that trumpet kicks in it properly melts steel. What a sound. Top notch, this one. Oof, tubs, etc.
B is apparently not a Blue Note track, but then half of you bastards voted for Lothar and the Hand People in a synthpop tie, so fuck themes. However, hatz had built this up into sounding great, when in fact it's a prog-rockist take on jazz fusion, a shit Soft Machine.
A, by a mile.

B had the more interesting soloing and vibe, but it doesn't fit the category. I found A pretty pedestrian. Abstain

Sorry Ange but there you are. I do think a lot of jazz suffers in this kind of competition because it lacks the immediacy, sometimes, of other genres. Often you really need to immerse yourself fully in an album to appreciate it, difficult to do if you're just sampling a track via YouTube. I tend to be less keen on the honking, abstract late 60s kind of jazz anyway, just my own personal taste.

I was just having a laugh mate, no need to apologise. To each their own, of course. But i purposefully went with several picks that were not so Preludin immediate because A) i care not for winning and B) I wanted only tracks that i love deeply. That JH track is very dear to me for several reasons, one being the thumping Afro-Latin drumming of Joe Chambers, another Bobby Hutch's vibes, but most of all Lee Morgan's insane solo, which is like a musical war cry. The track itself is not that "out" i feel, just the right mix of conplexity and groove. Cedar Walton is once again a mighty secret weapon.

Have to say I agree with fange about Lee Morgan's solo. Anyone who has been paying attention knows what I think about trumpets in general, but this time it adds to the track. Pretty vibes, too. No idea how it all fits togetehr, but as a collection of disparate parts, sort of works for me.
I heard TW'sL back in the day, and I'm glad it's off theme because I don't want to listen to it again.
