Neither is all that amusing, but B is unquestionably a novelty song and A I'm less sure about. Plus, once again, I like to reward the adventurousness when someone goes pre-50s. Being this is way pre-50s, kudos.

Boy, the "Novelty" category has not been what I was expecting..Somebody give us a "Fish Heads" or "Existential Blues" for freak sake..
Anyway, For it's batshit video, Vote A

B is just too antiquated for me, I just can't relate to it or get very interested in it and it would be dishonest of me to pretend that I am in some fake display of "open mindedness". A is great fun and can be seen as "novelty" on the basis of sounding like nothing else, I mean it sounds like going to a disco on........Mars. l also really like the way BB says "contact"!

I agree with everything G says. Maybe I like B just a tad more. But 'Contact' is a Gainsbourg gem, a total one-off, absolutely out of and beyond its time, and SO much fun.

Well, A's quite a fun Gainsbourg thing, that insistent bass, and hypnotic dit dit dit dit dit dit dit dit dit dit dit drilling its way into my brain. Not much of a song, but I like this kind of repetitive loop thing.
B feels very gentle, if we're going to have ukelele comic songs, George Formby's lyrics were far dirtier and funnier. Still don't understand what's novelty about either pick.

Love Bardot but absolutely not Gainsbourg. But really don't like B.
I think I need to do these in the morning. Another abstain till I come back.
*Edit. I don't like Bardot that much.
Abstain.

A record by Brigitte Bardot, famous for having no singing voice at all (as well not being much of an actress and a fascist sympathiser) would have been a real novelty, but unfortunately it's actually it's another Serge Gainsbourg record, and thus as fresh, amusing and appealing as an ashtray overflowing with sucked and tarry Gauloises. Absolute rubbish.
No-one is suggesting that Mr Fowler's record from 1927 is quality, but it is at least a novelty (in the Twenties all non-classical records were described as Dance, Ballad or Novelty, just three genres: ah, simplicity). Also, it precedes George Formby, who was but a copyist, and despite Mr Fish's asseverations, no filthier, just less subtle. Great uke sound, too. Nimble picking. And not an ugly French pervert.

A is excellent! Admittedly after about 10 listens I’d probably be begging for Art Fowler but for the moment I’m infatuated with it.
