In reverse order
Kill with fire Tears for Fears
Don't know them, no particular wish to Fugazi Alanis Morissette Jeff Buckley
Heard a smattering, risible to harmless 'not my thing' Judas Priest The Beastie Boys Bon Jovi
Didn't hear them at the time, pretty decent, my son's favourite band The Sonics
Curate's egg – great vocal group turned to shit and drivel funk around 1970 The Isley Brothers
One of the best of their kind, better than anything contemporary from the north-west The Animals
Don't like them as much as I used to, but had a brief crush Hüsker Dü
Made more great records than all the others put together in a brief period in the 1950s, treading water ever since, but still a one-off brilliant artist, subject of the greatest music biography I ever read
Jerry Lee Lewis

Ah, gotcha - thought you were referring to whole thread rather than the good Inspector's, ahem, 'idiosyncratic' choices.

the good Inspector's, ahem, 'idiosyncratic' choices. You're a fine one to talk about idiosyncratic taste! FWIW - The Beastie Boys are generally highly-regarded if you're into hip-hop and rap, and in Paul's Boutique and Ill Communication they made two classic albums, with great singles and cuts scattered elsewhere too. Not so hard to understand why someone who likes the genre would give them an "aye" then. Hüsker Dü I have never rated and never really understood why people do: to me they always sounded like very amateurish, obvious songs, recorded in a toilet cistern. And why the confusion about my not liking Fugazi much? Are you and Coan on a straight-edge punk tip now?

Um, I was talking to John, and I put 'idiosyncratic' in quotes as an attempt to characterize what he was saying. Everyone has different tastes on this board, and I don't have any problem with that - it's a strength. I don't have any view at all about the Beasties or Fugazi – have no memory of ever listening the latter, because I find straight edge inimical to my point of view, much like Scientology and objectivism, the reasons I won't listen to Beck or Rush. I agree with you about Husker Du's production, too, but I quite liked it. Apologies for promoting a misunderstanding

Ah, OK - but I did get that impression about Fugazi from reading interviews, etc., and the same from Minor Threat. And giving albums a try is a bit beyond me these days. I rarely listen to music, never have it on in the background, and am in the process of actively divesting myself of my record and CD collection, as I already have far more than I could conceivably need for the rest of my life, so I'm going to pass
