I've never noticed before that Frank Zappa couldn't play.
Abstain.

I hate Zappa - especially when he's doing what he's doing in B. Really a waste of everybody's time.

God, A is so unpleasant. I guess it's supposed to be.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but Zappa's wankery is actually preferable. I think I'm voting B for having once done We're Only in it for the Money, but I don't like to abstain.

I can understand the default anti-Zappa vote, but did people actually listen to A? I've heard more pleasant pneumatic drills digging up the road than this. B is terribly dull, but if I was stuck in a lift and had to listen to one then it would be what I'd choose. There won't be a worse tie than this in the whole competition, I can say that with absolute certainty.

Sweet baby James - not a very encouraging start to the round. A shower of electronic cagada vs. a Santana-lite shit sandwich. None for me, thanks.

Yeah, enough with the boring guitars and drums; they should've got out the angle grinders and sandpaper sheets and recorded it on a 1982 Panasonic tape deck. Yeow.... bite! I give my public what they demand. Seems I can't win these days...

I thought that this would be the easiest round for me to pick something which sonically represents the theme, rather than a lyric or track title. Esplendor Geometrico were a Spanish industrial band, the only one I'm aware of, who came up with this distinctive mechanical sounds seemingly in isolation from any particular scene. Just an abrasive battering ram of insistent clattering that wormed it's way through my ears and into my soul.
What's B got to do with machines? It just sounds like Pink Floyd to me, with more expressive guitar playing. Another that drags on, mind.

What's B got to do with machines? Zappa used to own a washing machine innit.

Fuckin' hell, Esplendor Geométrico! I might have heard about 1 minute of a single from them many years ago, and that left me with no intention at all to repeat the experience. OK, I'll play a bit ... enough.
There are many reasons for not voting for B - nothing to do with the theme, extremely boring and nonsense. I'd really like to know the reasons for picking this and how it relates to the theme.
I agree with G about this tie and it really deserves abstention, but A deserves punishment.

oh man, you people will be the end of me. I fucking LOVE A. I adore musical selections that make people in the house wonder what the fuck is happening. BUT, I am a HUGE Zappa fan. I think the selection is wonderful. the Chunga of the title, by the way, is a vacuum cleaner so it does meet the "machine" requirement. I think FZ is a splendid player and love the wonderful tone he gets on pieces like this. it's hard not to pick Zappa just because so many people seem to enjoy hating him so much.
abstain-a-vous.

I stand corrected about the machine thing. I clarify that I consider myself a Zappa fan, but I'm much more interested in him as a composer or arranger than as a guitar player. Most of the times I find his solos cold, samey and unengaging.
