Again, A's a good track. But it's up against something I love.

Both utterly empty, worthless efforts. They've both robbed other people's clothes without bothering to put anything inside them.
Abstain.

I've never understood the point of a band like Bloc Party. What exactly are they bringing to the table? To put it bluntly I don't hear a great deal of musical talent there. Here they offer a hyperkinetic energy, but it's nothing that a hundred other bands haven't done more memorably. I liked the Moloko record enough to buy it at the time. I can see it might be too blandly processed for many tastes and I can't say it's particularly stayed with me. However it's kind of efficient in what it does and I do really like its chorus.

A doesn't excite me much i'm afraid. I had to turn it off after 2 mins., sorry A. B isn't a whole heap better - i wish it was 'Sing It Back' - but it's ok.

Actually it was "Sing it Back" that I bought rather than this one. I guess the fact I confused them says something about their generic nature.

I like the musical backing of B, but the waify voice is a deal-breaker for me.
I don't hear the problem with A. It's certainly nothing great, but it's kinetic and spirited, and if it's trying to copy something/someone else, I have no idea what or who. Not strikingly unique or original, but not utterly empty like, say, Greta Van Fleet either.
Is that compliment backhanded enough?

There's just such a lack of talent there. The track above sounds like it took five minutes to write and record, it's just vacuous.

I bet there are plenty of songs you love that took five minutes to write and record.

I once saw Bloc Party's singer in the crowd at a Motorhead gig. Ooo, get me with my rubbing shoulders with the celebs. I do get the criticism of the band, I think a lot is in the production as well as with the simplicity of the song. I just don't see why you'd rave over this if it was recorded in 1966, but hate it if it was 2001 or whenever. The squall of guitar to the end is quite nice, they should've had more of that.
I never knew there were two Moloko songs, but I've definitely heard this before. One of those cinstructed by committee jobs, isn't it, has what feels like the right bits, but all put together a bit cynically. The string section playing the hook, feels a bit desperate.

Well, I must be on a different wavelength, but I found B far more generic than A. I really enjoyed thia Bloc Party track, I have somewhere a record from them that I paid no attention at the time, maybe I should give it another try.

A is full of energy and sparkage and that but it all boils down to that boring descending bass line in the chorus.
B builds some nice textures but is sounding a bit dated just now.

I was ready to write a post on A before realising I was actually talking about Maximo Park. There was so much stuff like this about at the time that it's easy to get mixed up between bands. Well, if this didn't pull me in deep when it came out it's unlikely to now, it's got plenty of energy but it still just feels like indie-by-numbers.
B was really ubiquitous for a time. 20 years ago now? Trip hop went pretty conservative quickly, although I like the voice and the texture on the bass. She's matured well in her solo work.
