Another one I'm having trouble with. I like the Beardos. But the live version is better, which tells me I don't like the production of the studio version given here. B is good. But how much of a novelty is it now?
I'll be back and if not it's abstain.

Loved both of these for very different reasons.
B sounds a bit like a couple of other things from that same era, so I'm going to give it to
A
which made me laugh. I like not knowing anything about a song, sometimes.

B is pretty slight - I guess it's trying to be a "Surfin' Bird" takeoff, but it's way too tame by comparison - but since I find A to be pretty unpleasant listening, it gets the easy win.

A seems a less funny Spinal Tap. B is a bit of fifties fun, but doesn't feel particularly distinctive. It's okay.

A is a little too OTT even for me. A pretty easy B.

I think I'm with Dayo here. This sounds like Van Halen, I'm not sure I can cope with it. Is it Jack Black or something, it's OTT and not funny, anyway.
Hasn't B been used in cups before? I guess I'll throw it a vote to avoid another abstain.

A I thought this was mildly entertaining, but no more a novelty record than something by The Dictators or The Ramones, just because the lyrics are intended to be amusing. B on the other hand qualifies as a novelty record from any era because it's a piss-take of dance craze records (always considered novelties), and because when I last used it in a cup no less an authority than Thesiger sneeringly dismissed it as such. Plus, of course, it' a brilliantly silly record with an incisive lyric and toe-tapping beat. Hotcha! Oh, and I don't see the similarity with Surfing Bird at all (apart from the fact that I owned both of them on Stateside red-A demos ), and it was 1964 fun, not fifties - the whole dance craze craze was contained in the first half of the 1960s
