Musically, I prefer B. And A probably benefits from my familiarity with it. But the voice of the singer in B ... that wailing quality. Ug.

Die Krupps! fuck that's just dreadful. Charmless wailing shit.
A, without much enthusiasm

Really ugly sounds on both. But then this has never been my genre. It's just that these are two very good examples of what I dislike about it and why. Oh lordy.
I guess the singing's pretty decent on A at least.

I enjoyed this tie. I remembered the BB record as not being that good, but actually it's worn very well as proto-house. That driving synth riff is great and Somerville brings a fantastic energy to the record (whatever happened to wee Jimmy anyway?). Some of the sounds are a little clunky and dated, but it wouldn't take too much remixing to produce a banging record. There was something quite hypnotic about the stern teutonic B. It had a certain commanding aspect to it. It did rather get stuck in one mode though ( perhaps that was the point), the cathartic climax I was hoping for never really came.

B sounds different. A doesn't.

A is a classic, but B is the more daring choice..Vote B

A has got horrid 80s horns on it. That gargly vocal can be annoying too. It’s not a bad track overall, though.
B sounds like Walk on Gilded Splinters run through an electro-mangle, whatever that is.

New Order's Age of Consent would've won this tie, I reckon. That's a horrible synth-tone which starts the record (and continues throughout), the brass is unnecessarily distracting, and the drums are done really badly, especially the big doop-doop-doop fills. But Jimmy gives it a performance the track doesn't deserve, he's dangerously on fire here against a backdrop of shit shell-suits. If this was on a competently produced track, I may have struggled, just because of Jimmy's proper comitted effort here.
I love B, obviously. This is the distilled essence of synthpop, a cold repetitive grind of gritty synth and pained emoting. I like how that bass is so deep that it's barely audible, just echoing through the cavern sometimes. A thing of minimalist beauty.

We've discussed this before, the theme is synthpop, where's the 'pop' in B, ffs?

Good match, both fine choices in their way; A is maybe a little too busy, and B isn`t quite busy enough. Both capture a certain mood well for me though. B for being a little more surprising.

Both suffer from 80s production clichés but it's an easy vote for A. I don't dislike B but the sub-Sylvian wailing isn't endearing.
