A pretty good version of Ain't Necessarily So. Good vocals, slow build backing. Yeah, really very good. Unfortunately it's up against Aphrodite's Child.
I'm quite partial to them, I know this track (but not too much of their music). Roussos's voice exactly right for the song and music. This track just works, all the elements blend, harmonise, build and support the dancing guitar. Lovely stuff.

I do like A with its crazed 'more is more' production. But it's one of those 'cult' tracks that's in danger of overexposure and I'm a bit burnt out on it. I don't know much about Duffy Power, other than he was part ( I think) of the Larry Parnes stable. I like the expansive production with all of its space ( Joe Meek?) which really showcases the voice and yer fella Duffy gives it some fair wallop. Like Billy Fury, this is more sophisticated than this era of British pop is sometimes thought of. Yeah, liked it...nice pick.

Duffy sounds kind of like a male Judy Henske on this. And apparently covered "I Saw Her Standing There" backed by the Graham Bond Quartet in 1963! Subject for future research. For that alone I'm voting B.
I like the contrast in production styles - "more is more" is a good description for A, which is enjoyably OTT, but B is a masterclass in precision, and its unclutteredness really brings the vocal to the fore.

Duffy Power was one of Larry Parnes' fellas, right? I hadn't heard anything by him before. This one is pretty good - it grows effectively, that reedy organ sound works well. I like it a lot. I also really like the Aphrodite's Child track, the best thing I've heard by them. 'the first one is a black' Nice match! erm... B

Hmm, is A some kind of companion piece to the Scott Walker track? It's a shame it has the bluesy rocking out aspects, when it's just tinkling bells and echoing drones accompanying the squeaky bugger, it's not bad. Even then, the overly long Guns n Rosey outro isn't too bad, it has a certain roll to it.
B feels like a real find from a time that normally doesn't appeal. That production/arrangement is absolutely pristine though, and the way it builds as a whole, voicem instrumentation, the whole sound-stage seems to swell with power and attitude. Great pick.

I agree that this is a good tie. 666 is a test to patience but this track is one of the best there. Still I enjoyed more B which is new to me and a rare find. With apologies to A

A doesn't really do anything for me until the gee-tar kicks in. B had me shuffling around waiting tables & I don't even work here.

I get on fine with A. I love that “he made his home in a fish’s abdomen” line in B but just now the gods are smiling down on

Good match. They are a bit like bookends showing how 60s popular music moved and grew over the decade into the 70s.
Maybe just A.
