So much TV is disposable which is fine because it's two different things but...
Even the great TV shows like the Sopranos etc are relatively low in numbers, you know? I mean considering how much telly there is.
Part of me also can't help but push back against the Netflix generation I guess. Ooo, tv, ooo, box sets etc.

I don't buy that G doesn't, honestly. For the sheer number of artists we all admire that have gleefully done cameos, if nothing else. Although I do appreciate that his 'maverick' tendencies include sticking up for the unloved as well as dismissing the loved. It's not "an American thing," in any case. I don't mind it and have certainly enjoyed it, it's just never been 'must see' TV for me. There's also a smug "aren't we clever" quality about it that I find slightly off-putting. I'd probably enjoy it more if they didn't try and cram in ten jokes every five seconds. It can often be too frantic and zany for me. I've always found South Park so much funnier.

Is it that you don't know it, or just that you're surprised it's there? It was a soap opera that aired on Channel 4 between 1982 and around 2000. In its early days it was wonderful, like a 30-minute Ken Loach film twice a week. Actually it probably wasn't that good really and my memory's playing tricks I mean, I haven't seen those shows for almost 40 years. But I did really enjoy it. Do you remember Tommy McArdle? I used to love that character!

I really want to do this...
I'll never get round to making a definitive, ranked list (though I love them so). But as an exercise I'll list my favourites off the top of my head:
The Simpsons (It DID play a significant role in my life) The west wing (surprised there's no love) Scrubs Black books Arrested development MASH The Twilight Zone mystery science theater 3000 Friday night lights 30 rock Parks and recreation Black adder Futurama
... struggling to think of other shows I love.
