Ah, fuck.
After a certain point, you really forget about certain people's mortality. (If that makes any sense)

It does make sense.
Ah, but...this one's especially sad. I was a fan at a very young age. He had so much! and as you get older you realise that he was kind of fearless with all the shrieking, the extravagance. And of course those amazing songs - they still sound WILD!

In terms of his vocal gifts, it's really one of those things like "Okay - now YOU try it."
McCartney did an impressive interpretation (and, yeah, Gerry Roslie of the Sonics is clearly a disciple), but...otherwise wholly inimitable. Like, technically impossible (unless you happen to be Little Richard).

Little Richard can’t die. That’s just not allowed.
One of life’s true originals. A real hero. And when you think of the shite that gets praised these days as being “brave”.
The man had balls the size of cannonballs
RIP legend

There’s something extra in those records. His long, detailed interesting tale made it easy to forget what an absolute giant he was. His passing will remind us.
The very best Little Richard singles rule the world. future generations regarding film and video will be stunned to see that he was doing what he did when he did it.

What you guys said.
I got those first two Specialty LPs my last year of high school. I have many happy memories of driving around, playing the cassette I'd made, attempting to sing along!
I'm glad I got to see him once. Both he and his band were unexpectedly fabulous.
R.I.P.

Ah fuck, another legend gone. But Little Richard is different, man. I can't really put into words how much his music, and he as a performer, influenced my musical love from the very beginning. Words can't do justice to the feelings of wonder and excitement those Specialty records gave me as a kid, and which i still look for to this very fucking day. Thank you so much, you crazy, magnificent man

I think I posted this interview before but I love it, you get some of his flavour. Extraordinary character and, as the BBC calls him, rock and roll pioneer.
RIP

This was from a different thread, but captures how i feel and i want it to be here. I'm glad this thread has come up - cheers 'Skopey - because sometimes I feel like i'm the only one who likes to start threads about '50s music, a decade that honestly i'm still pretty obsessed about. This came on the other day when i was playing some LR, which I still do very regularly, and it got me thinking about how important that crossover appeal between music and movies was and still is. Most of the cash-in R&R/music films are pretty dodgy by their very nature, but there is something about Frank Tashlin's The Girl Can't Help It that transcends its limitations, and it has a lot to do with how stunningly colourful and pure tongue in cheek fun it is, and the same can be said for Little Richard's music. The title track is solid gold - written by the legendary Bobby Troup - and is the perfect marriage of New Orleans energy and sass with Hollywood style and smarts. Genius.

I'm a fan of some of his 60s SOUL records which are a little unjustly neglected in my view. I'll post some tracks later.
