Dave Holland (@thedaveholland) Tweeted: Little Richard!!!! I played his songs with the first band I was in when I was 13 - 14 along with songs by Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddly, Jerry Lee Lewis etc. So many working class kids in the UK like myself heard that music and had to get a band together. The journey began. t.co/0SNO6k1SoH

Both the Beatles and Paul McCartney changed their homepages to photos/tributes to the great man. Lovely words from Paul, of course.
All as if to say "If you don't know where we come from, let us make it explicit."

I've watched a fair bit on youtube about him. This interview has the usual stuff he repeats but also has the story of his father's death. And him explaining what he meant when he said that if he were white there'd be no Elvis.
Also talks about him doing 'rubber duckie' type songs, which I've watched and are perfect for the joy he projects but I'll spare you those.

Looked different without his make up and wig, didn't he? He still had those blazing eyes, though.

It's kind of odd that Schneider and Little Richard would pass away in the same week, two of the genuine, bona fide originators of modern music going together.
Calling him a 'pioneer' undersells him I think. His era is defined by how it influenced what would come, but with Richard he really was something more than a line on a chronology. He was a complete one off.

I rarely get choked up when musicians or athletes, which mean just as much to me, die. I can't say I got emotional when I heard Little Richard had died, but I did hesitate and reflect a bit. I got a comp of his Specialty hits in high school and he was one of those musicians I had a personal connection with. Little Richard, with Elvis, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee, and the Everlys were the godfathers.True Godfathers.

There seem to be countless hours worth of Little Richard footage on YouTube, and I didn't go searching for this one personally, but this line cracked me up when I heard it: "At time he used to make my big toe shoot up in my boot." (rofl)
