The other day the lass asked me, "what do you want to achieve during lockdown, what do you want to change?"
And I was like, "I dunno, watch more movies?".
I see stuff in the media about the transformational potential of lockdown. This is gonna change society, change people. Like it's a great opportunity to reassess your life or summat. I have spent it mostly buzzing on coffee, listening to tunes and working from home during the day.
I did buy an I-rig tool so I can start recording music on my phone but the damn thing was out of stock at amazon so I'm still waiting on it.
What do YOU hope to achieve? What are YOU transforming about yourself?
Or are you like me and just kinda plugging on as per.

I see it as more of a life-freeze. Everything's paused - work, travel, meeting people.
If people manage to achieve something then good for them.
I've been watching shitloads of TV and films - more, easily, than at any other period in my life. I don't see it as wasted time really, altho' of course I'm aware that it's not really the best use of this time either.

I have some suggestions for the owners of Pornhub.

I mean I'm not busy but I still have to do shit. It makes it more frustrating because I'm flitting between things - guitar, emails etc It just feels like a state of limbo to me.

I imagine it's like that for a lot of people. Maybe if we'd seen it coming - like, if we'd had weeks to plan ahead, then we could have made better use of the time. As it is, it's like being thrown out of a car into a field without anything but the clothes you're in. So you just sit there until you get picked up again.

What did you do during the great lockdown of 2020?
Er, I drank a lot, ate a shitload and generally faffed about.
You mean you didn't learn an instrument or make a quilt?
No

Some people have though. Sales of craft materials have gone through the roof.
The only thing I think I've done more of is cooking. Not so much eating more, but taking longer to prepare what I cook, being a bit more ambitious, giving it more care and thought generally. I haven't watched more films. I'd quite like it if I did, but I never know where to find good ones these days.

Paid streaming services like MUBI and the Criterion Channel (you need a VPN), then there's Netflix, Amazon Prime, all the Sky or Virgin TV stuff, and even youtube has classic films, many uploaded in HD. On top of that there's the DVD or Blu-ray collection I presume you have, and then torrent sites for the obscure stuff...

Ah, there's the guitar too. You too, D? I am practising more and once this irig arrives I can start getting tracks down and make some progress there. That is something I want to make progress on actually....writing songs. The lass and I watched the first series of the sopranos with a mate recently - she'd never seen it and I'd forgotten most of it - so I'm gonna watch the rest of it too cos I never got round to the final episodes (I know, I know).

Mubi has some interesting stuff and you can try a free trial I really should sort out a vpn for the Criterion channel.

I've been able to read again (most evenings in teacher training I've been planning lessons) which has been a bit of a boon as I've really missed it. Last year I read continuously until about October and then it really dried up.
I'd love to do some sort of craft activity (I had looked at painting miniatures again after a 30 year break) but the trouble is that financially we are somewhat in limbo, so any sort of purchase of that nature is just excessive right now. I'd need to look at splashing out £100 or so as an initial purchase and then there's the simple matter of storage - we don't have any space.
I've been playing boardgames remotely with a few friends, which has helped a bit. Wednesdays and Sunday evenings.
My son has been reading books far above his reading age (The Eagle of the Ninth for example, which I've read with him and is essentially an adult book) so that is the main "achievement" I guess of Lockdown so far - the fact that he can just get a book and read when both of his parents are working.

To me it feels nearly as if living in some vacuum. Work is not a problem, I've been working from home for the past 10 years and so far I haven't noticed people are reluctant to assign consultancy jobs. But everything other, I don't know, my spirits seem to get lower by the day. And grumpiness is setting in. The levels of irritation I can feel by some wanker endlessly studying a bag of sugar while standing in the middle of an aisle of the supermarket are unheard of.
I definitely watched more films and series and I finally re-did my office.
