Aww, no!
Maybe a couple of months ago I was delighted to discover that some kind soul had uploaded many full episodes of the great Fernwood 2 Night (later America 2 Night) to YouTube - the mock talk show where Willard played Jerry Hubbard, dim-witted sidekick to Martin Mull's contemptuous host Barth Gimble. One of my favorite shows ever, and mostly unavailable on DVD or streaming. I was enjoying getting reacquainted when without warning some UNkind soul had them taken down.
And now this.
Fuck this shit.
R.I.P., Fred.
(egregiously obscure Spinal Tap reference)

That Four Jacks reference says so much about Willard - he had such a knack for inserting these superfluous (and hilarious) asides in everything he did.

Interviews seem to indicate that what was pleasing and unusual about his work was due to his personality quirks. God bless him. I thought he was delightful.

I logged in to post he'd died but of course you guys knew already. In the UK we probably only saw him when he appeared with the Spinal Tap actors in things like Best in Show or latterly if we watched stuff on youtube. He had a kind of gentle quirkiness to his comedy, I thought he was delightful too

My friends and I were huge fans of Fernwood Tonight, where he played Jerry Willard. I've followed him ever since.
