He is not as smart as he thinks he is and I certainly wouldn't want to get stuck in a conversation with him at a party. You'd never get in a word and be looking for a way to escape in under five minutes. I would relish the opportunity! Self-absorbed though he may be, I think he understands the difference between an interview and a casual conversation, and he can be very funny (at least, that used to be the case - hopefully still is). I am being admittedly hard on the guy. Sometimes he bugs the hell out of me when he says such stupid stuff about his cash cow.

I lost a lot of respect for him as a person after the kiddie porn thing. He's lucky he got out of that.

I used to read every interview with the guy I could get my hands on. why did I do that? at least as far back as "Who Are You" he's been dogging the Who more than you'd think the principal songwriter would.
I mean, it seems like he just tries too hard to be edgy and confrontational about things that don't really need to be. Keith wasn't a very good drummer. why would people pay money to see the Who instead of the Clash? why would people think I'm gay just because I spent a bunch of interviews saying really gay stuff?
he seems to approach his interviews with a spirit of "okay, let's get this over with" except he keeps going. He wrote some songs that I think are quite splendid but he sure does seem to bitch a lot.

I think you're right, and that's an interesting point, because he used to plainly ADORE interviews...

He is one of rocks best interviewees but I wouldn't want to have a pint with him.
