There's a school of thought that says Imperial Bedroom is some sort of masterpiece. It featured WAY up in the NME's top 100 of 1985, comparisons to the Beatles (Geoff Emerick was on board), you'd get dramatic praise from some over on BCB.

I think it is a masterpiece and his finest effort. It got me shocked when it was released and it has not gone down in my estmation. It's true that it is a bit too dense to have it played often, and in fact haven't played it in ages, My Aim is True, Armed Forces or Blood & Chocolate are more friendly and easier picks if I feel like playing his music. But you are inspiring me to play it again right now.

I loved Imperial Bedroom. It kinda showed the whole punk tear it down ethos, also had an ambitious rebuild it ethos.
