As it's the books and not the bookshelves you want to show off, yer standard IKEA BILLY things do the job well enough, right?

Don't buy your bookcase -or anything really - from IKEA. I mean why do that?

It just seems like such a sheep like thing to do. And more to the point you're buying something which will just fall apart in three years...where's the gain in that?

Build your own fucking bookshelves, hewn out of raw timber and stained with your own sweat and blood.
That’s where the real value lies.

Oh, and by all means, if you’ve got the cash, get a fucking grand piano!!

I used them recently in combination with a self made foundation of timber for my records and books that are outsized, to build a wall to wall, floor to ceiling library and it's looking great. You do need to reinforce the billy's though and preperly connect them. By no means ever take them apart to rebuild again later though - that doesn't work.

It looks like it's well made, so probably around 2.5 to 3 grand?

Yeah, they're pretty sturdy, I can't see them collapsing soon. I quickly needed shelves for a rented flat without trawling through everywhere for random missized second hand bureaus. Obviously I'm a sheep, but then again the sheep is actually a very intelligent and misunderstood animal.

Perhaps I was a bit hasty in my comments and these are a good buy, but would you agree that often IKEA furniture is poorly made and unlikely to last for any reasonable time?

It's fun. Like Lego for your walls.
