Don't forget to look at gum tree and eBay. You obviously have to travel through a LOT of garbage and be looking out constantly for different listings... But there are incredible bargains to be had for "real" furniture.
I foolishly got my husband looking when we first moved in. He LOVES a bargain, and it got to the point where he just found too many really great things we just didn't have room for. The tricky thing might be having to pick things up from strange places. We had a "man with a van" who we liked and would call up and factor this into the cost of the furniture... Which may be tricky during covid times.
Still we have some exquisite pieces of furniture, made with hard wood and good build for next to nothing.

I think for JC's flat, he needs something that goes with the nice wooden floor he's got and by the looks of it, high ceilings.
A splash of colour here and there with some bold cushions, the odd antique lamp and a mixture of the modern and new. Not too much of one thing.
JC, have you thought about a nice bold framed print?

Antique lamps are pretty expensive Toby and don't seem to fit with the MCM vibe he's going for.

JC, have you thought about a nice bold framed print? I want several. The walls are crying out for art. That main room immediately made me think of an art gallery the moment I first walked in.

It's popular these days but many manufacturers just think by adding little stick legs to their sofas then they've got the MCM thing sewn up (ha ha)

www.etsy.com/uk/shop/ModaRetroI'm a little short on stock at the moment because I've been selling more than buying, which was obviously quite difficult during lockdown, but I do add stuff regularly!

This is an amazing thread on the "mysterious energy" of 70's British ceramics!
I'm now keeping an eye out in charity shops for this stuff

This is an amazing thread on the "mysterious energy" of 70's British ceramics! I'm now keeping an eye out in charity shops for this stuff I'm a big John Clappison fan, Susan Williams Ellis too. I'm always looking out for 70s Hornsea, Denby, Portmeirion etc. Avoid the easily found stuff like Hornsea Heirloom and try and find stuff like the 60s Imprest range. It's surprisingly hard to find though and when I do I sell it pretty quickly. If you want to go for the full psychedelic experience then check out 60s 70s Poole!

So I'm filling the place with the cheapest Argos crap because it really is the only stuff I can get right now. The plan is to move it bit by bit to the guest room if and when I get better items in the future.
The armchair-in-a-box, the fake fur rug and the little 'beech veneer' desk are fine for the moment, anyway.

I feel like I'm getting texts from my daughter on her first new apartment or something.
