I don't know why these women have been named "Karen," but this is the latest one where all the guy did was ask the woman to leash her dog in the park and she got unglued. In Oakland, we had BBQ Betty, who was telling an African-American family or group they coudn't barbecue and I remember some other ones where white guys and women were telling kids of color to stop selling water and girl scout cookies of all things.
This woman lost her dog to animal services, or gave it up, and was put on administrative leave or unneccesarily calling 911 on this guy.

Oh, there's the longest and liveliest thread about this on CaB - it's pretty tense in places. Over 20 pages and still going strong. www.cookdandbombd.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,80452.0.html I don't know. Naturally you tend to side with HIM because of HER immediate response ('an African-American man...') but there are all sorts of things you can read into it all. And of course we have a different perspective in Europe (altho' at the same time we're roughly sympathetic to the socially-liberal views there)

There are all sorts of issues here. We dont know if he asked her to stop before he started filming her.
If he did and she ignored him, then I guess if he said "I'm going to report to you to the authorities with this evidence if you don't" then he's in the right.
The issue for me is the filming and the way it frames the incident.
Of course, the way she immediately sees him as a threat because he is black is evidence that casual racism is only a stone's throw away at all times.

I scanned the comments, quickly. She overreacted and its' kinda unbelievable that she so quickly calls 911 and uses the white liberal code of "African American" man, like the guy's fucking Mandingo. Seems like she was an exec at Franklin Templeton, a big financial company, and my take she has had very little interaction with Black folks ever in her life, school and growing up, and faced with an interaction where she didn't have the upper hand, blew her top. On the other hand, yes, she fucked herself, but I think things like this can be used to educate vs. lay in to someone. Chances are, this incident is not going to change her and she may feel even more the victim. Or, she has an epiphany. Which I doubt.

she's not afraid of that guy. she's calling the cops so they'll come beat the shit out of him. I don't care what happened before they started filming. she is using her whiteness to try to fuck up his day - period. she's doing this INSTEAD of leashing her dog.

Black people routinely get killed by the cops in the US, but sure, feel bad for the dog.

I saw this on Twitter. I also read the guy's reconstruction of the conversation just before he started filming - can't find it now but it was totally unthreatening and perfectly reasonable.
So good,I'm glad she lost her job, she was trying to get the guy arrested. May make her think twice next time. Yes that's an extreme reaction but not being a player in that scenario I do take pleasure in the fact her entitled and racist behaviour bit her on the arse.

Yeah, she was suspended and I read they've now fired her. I do not understand the 0 to 100 mph reaction these people take. They fly off the handle.

Both apparently share the last name of Cooper. He graduated from Harvard, she from Univ of Chicago. Started as a bird watcher-dog dispute. (Her dog walker identified her, apparently research showed the dog had suffered numerous injuries in the two years she had had him.)
Mr. Cooper, who is on the board of the New York City Audubon Society, then produced dog treats, which he explained, he carries because it forces owners to leash their dogs to prevent the animal from snacking.
“I pull out the dog treats I carry for just for such intransigence,” he wrote. “That’s when I started video recording with my iPhone, and when her inner Karen fully emerged and took a dark turn,” he said, using the name Karen, which has become slang for an entitled white woman.
Ms. Cooper apologized, according to NBC, but denied being racist.
“I sincerely and humbly apologize to everyone, especially to that man, his family,” she said to the network. “It was unacceptable and I humbly and fully apologize to everyone who’s seen that video, everyone that’s been offended … everyone who thinks of me in a lower light and I understand why they do.”
Speaking to CNN, Mr. Cooper said he would accept the apology “only if it is genuine and if she plans on keeping her dog on a leash going forward.”
