In a desperate bid to reclaim the board from Uriah Heep, can I present a band that were doing something quite different from everyone else, but were apparently only successfull at that for one album, their debut, An Awesome Wave. This actually came to my attention with something Diamond Dog posted on BCB ages ago. I think it's a damned good album, really distinct and individualistic, yet crammed full of melody and pop tunes enough to keep the old cynics around here happy, surely?

It's generic modern pop, proficient, kinda bland. i wouldn't seek it out, but I wouldn't turn off.

Generic? That's a weird stick to beat them with.

I quite like both without being overly wowed. I wouldn't call it generic pop, I think there is something reasonably distinctive there ( as much as you're going to get these days anyway). Both have a lightly dreamy, faraway feel with the underlying circular chord sequences. Neither song struck me as particularly memorable in a pop sense, but maybe it's more subtle than that and needs a few repeated listens. Cheers for posting..better than Uriah Heep for sure!

Both of these are ok, fishy, in a melodic post-rock kinda way, but little really stands out to me about them to be honest. The drum sounds are the most appealing part, nice crisply recorded beats that do stand out. But this fragmented approach to songs, with the shifting times and segmented structures, is to me as much a show of creative smoke and mirrors as some progressive rock. It feels like a conscious movement away from the traditional popular music sounds and forms, with some interesting aspects and nice moments of course, but all a bit narrow and headed into a cul de sac of their own. I'll take 'Easy Livin' any day, even if not much else by the Heep.

Generic? That's a weird stick to beat them with. If you have kids you hear a lot, lots of well produced things competing for attention that sit in the vaguely pop/hip-hop approach. What is distinct here? The vocals aren't much, mealy mouthed, the rhythm (of the first tune) is initially distinct, but then isn't. Both tunes are mid tempo slogs after a while, in a mix with other tunes these really wouldn't stand out, there's a possibly vague stoner vibe(?) Other than that they are well made/produced. I guess, I've become numb to all the pop music my kids play around me, most of it pleasant, it does get repetitive, it becomes a generic mostly pleasant sonic wash (possibly all to ProTools credit(?). If you want we can do a TikTok duet together of either one or both.
