Whilst I'm sure some of you prefer the early non-pop League, this thread is about their glorious singles run. Six rather wonderful singles, please choose two and say something about them.

Sound of the Crowd seemed pretty cool at the time, musically. The gang vocals put me off a bit, but it was the first HL single that I heard that I liked.
DYWM has been done to death.
Love Action is ok.
Mirror Man has a touch of the Style Councils about it. Yuk.
Fascination is alright in a poppy way.
Let’s face it though. ‘Seconds’ is the best thing they ever did. I’ve got a real soft spot for ‘Darkness’. I love that synth sound.
I’ve revisited the first couple of albums, but they’re interesting, rather than nice to listen to, if that makes sense.

Not keen on 'Mirror Man' but I'd lay my life down for any of the others. 'Love Action' and 'Fascination' are supreme.

My favourite of those is Love Action. All those bubbling, hooky little synth bits on the verses and best of all Oakey's vocal, commanding yet warm. Favourite bit? The girls yelping ' hard times'! Second is a close call, but I went for the euphoric ' Mirror Man'. Great bassline.

Bringing the girls into the band was the best thing Oakey did, right? but you still get people saying they were better at the start.

"Sound Of The Crowd" - absolutely nuttin'.
"Love Action" - good synth hook, not a bad chorus - but not a great chorus, and it takes them an arrogantly long time to get to it considering there's nuttin' else happening.
"Open Your Heart" - not bad.
"Don't You Want Me" - the only Dare track I liked in real time. I don't need to hear it ever again, but it's very good.
"Mirror Man" - again, the chorus is by far the best bit... and it isn't as good as the "Love Action" chorus.
"Fascination" - the other Human League song I enjoyed in real time. It still stands head and shoulders above the others for me.

Bringing in the girls was a genius move. It took them out of the art school and into suburban discos everywhere. Suddenly they became a band girls could like and relate to. And yet it still stayed true to the punk ethos that was their roots - the breakdown between audience and performer, the privileging of amateurish enthusiasm over professional slickness...it wouldn't have worked nearly so well had they been good singers and dancers.

That track's all about the verses and the hooky synth bits that link them. The chorus is merely the hors d'oevres.

Without him and Rushent they would've been fucked.

'Love Action' and 'Fascination' just before 'DYWM'.
