Well, I went for "Sound of the Crowd", which in many ways is the closest to their earlier sound, which I wouldnt describe as non-pop, but just better and less crowded. There's something comforting about Phil Oakey's voice though; he's not aloof, he jumps in with both boots which is unusual in this style.
After that, I pick "Mirror Man", which almost falls at the first with the Bananarama-esque woo-ooh-ooh-oohs, but proves itself to be endearing. It's a smart move to bring a bit of Motown into the synthpop mix with that tambourine on the beat, and a majestic bassline.
"Fascination" is an odd one, those jaunty synth-stabs are properly jarring, and hearing Phil singing in a smooth well-produced way isn't quite right. But that bridge or whatever "and so the conversation turned..." is bloody lovely. And I do like the hey-ay-ay-heys.
Also, if Phil & Giorgio's "Together in Electric Dreams" were here, that would have got my vote above the rest. Dunno why, but I love that song.

They're all wonderful singles, of that there's no doubt, but I'm going for "Sound of the Crowd" because there's something oddly sinister about to these ears, the way the singers are practically ordering you to get in line, and the way that groove runs over the top of it. It's a great pop song about the allure of pop songs.
"Love Action" comes second for me, largely due to that synth line and the laughably stentorian vocals, but if truth be told, I prefer the instrumental version of it which is on Love and Dancing. Whatever, they had something magic at this point in their career.
