First of all, I am not a chef. My cooking is limited to crock pots, insta pots, gourmet sandwiches and the microwave. I did see review of this today and bought a copy for my ex, because her birthday is coming up, and my ex brother-in-law, who fancies himself a chef.

Considering the other qualifications, do you really stand behind calling the sandwiches 'gourmet'? I'm pretty decent, though not great. My biggest flaw is probably timing, I'm good at chopping vegetables, adding spices, blending ingredients, etc., but if anything's the slightest bit complicated I inevitably mess up the timing, to where the water for the pasta is boiling away, the garlic is browned, the heat's too high and I haven't finished chopping the mushrooms (or similar foible). Also, I'm an improviser. Don't think I've ever followed a recipe to the letter; at most I use it as a guideline. I haven't cooked for any huge dinner parties or anything (outside of Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for family), but my wife seems to like my cooking OK.

This is excellent. It highlights the importance of keeping a decent store cupboard of things like harissa, capers, anchovies and all those little things that can bind a meal of leftovers and bits together.

With crockpots, I improvise a lot, because you can. Last week, I made a kind of stew.
12 cut up Italian sausages big container of chicken stock jar of sweet and spicy salsa. 1 onion chopped celery chopped carrots chopped mini bell peppers small potatoes 3 jalapenos

No denying the power of a good sandwich, fresh lettuce and tomato with Dijion covers for a lot of sins An underappreciated part of the whole sandwich formula is the roll or bread. It can take a sandwich from good to great.

I think that book in the original post looks interesting. I used to have this "Monday to Friday" cookbook by Michelle Urvatar. she had a show by that name back before the Food Network discovered Game Shows. the idea was that she was a chef and she didn't want to spend a lot of time cooking when she got home. she did a lot of things with boneless chicken breasts and rotisserie chickens. I'm not a good cook but I like to cook. I find it fun and relaxing unless it's goddam Thanksgiving or something and I need to know when I'll have things ready.
I've been curious about the Instant Pot because I used to use a pressure cooker ALL the time until I had one explode on me. Instead of getting one I've just been reconnecting with my slow cooker. there are some things it does damned well. I love all those tried and true "Dump Style" recipes. you know, the recipes that are so simple you don't even need to write them down. "dump two cans of soup over the chicken" type things.
I've been cooking more now that I need to lose weight so those "dump" style recipes aren't so great because of all the sodium and crap.

YASS. I have a Chicken Tikka Marsala slow cooker recipe to try but most of my fellow diners are picky eaters.

Better. Shredded chicken goes over good but I usually end up eating all the carnitas myself.

Up there with trying to figure out the universe is also trying to figure exactly how much cheese to put in your ham/cheese sandwich (grilled cheese for the yanks) so it doesn't spill out all over your George foreman when you're grilling it.

I don't think that rocket scientist career option you were asking me about is right for you, on second thought.
