I don't really know anything else she has done, but for that one song she has written herself into musical history. RIP Dame Vera.

I don't really know anything else she has done, but for that one song she has written herself into musical history. RIP Dame Vera. Yeah, it was a lot to do with tremendous morale boosting in a world war - she went and sang for troups on the front line. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53091856It's difficult to imagine conditions in the 1940s when the world was at war, with rationing and with every family being affected and the uncertainty and the death but even so I can imagine the impact of something like something positive to rally around. We take things for granted so much these days but I can appreciate her significance. *Edit: this is the link I wanted to include, her life in pics. You do get a sense of that other world from it www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-53068899

White Cliffs of Dover is also famous here, written by an American who didn't know that there are no bluebirds in Britain.

A friend of mine gave this tribute..
"RIP Dame Vera Lynn. 103 years old is quite an age. Met her once, incredible woman, lovely and nothing phased her. Stage manager was apologising for some 'shenanigans' that were going on backstage. She put her arm on his, smiled, and graciously said 'Don't worry, I lived through the war and have performed on stage with Lemmy, I'll be alright'."

Heard of the name and song but never really looked in to her. Brave age for anybody, R.I.P.

Great story, but next time you see your pal, tell him that Pedanticus says the word is 'fazed'

A girl I slept with once in the early 90's, and with whom I have no real relationship other than having some mutual friends posted a link to my facebook timeline about Vera Lynn's passing. Very strange. I can't help wondering if there's some sort of "We'll meet again" message implied.
