But if you've never fought before, how do you know you've got it in you to throw a good hard punch?
Is it one of the primal instincts?

I did get in a fight in high school where a guy pulled my sweater over my head and pushed me in a creek. That kinda ended it. Smart move. I'm a big fan of the '60s Avengers TV show - the Mr. Steed/Mrs. Peel ones - and a lot of the climactic fight scenes ended with the bad guy(s) getting knocked or pushed into a river or lake. These are guys fighting to stay out of prison, or to just plain kill the good guys, but no matter - once they got wet it was Fight Over, apparently.

That's fightin' talk Ray ... put 'em up! I don't think I've ever met anyone less inclined to fight. Not that he couldn't lay anyone out with one punch (he's a big strong lad). But the words 'Ray' and 'fight' in one phrase ... does not compute. Mind you, I'd never have imagined my husband punching anyone either. I suppose we all have it in us if cornered. The number of times I'd've loved to have punched someone *sigh*. Well I was only joking ... I've not met Ray but I do know him a little bit from BCB and Facebook.

Generally known on here as Thangy. OK, I'm going to assume that isn't the name your parents gave you.
Hi Thangy.

But if you've never fought before, how do you know you've got it in you to throw a good hard punch? Is it one of the primal instincts? Probably not, even if you are berserker. Most people are going to move in close and wrestle, tussle rather than fisticuffs. Not until you have been in a few fights do you really learn and value punching. Pacing, Your hands and knuckles get tougher, used to it. It's not natural, it hurts.

Well I'm stronger than yer average girlie, I've been in controlled fights ie sports and all "I wish I could punch them" wishful thinking aside, I know that if I were in any situation where it was needed, I just know I could deliver a full on hard effective punch (and anything else) where it was most effective. I know from my response to possible threats in the past that I'd step up and act. You just know what you have in you.

most people fight when they are mad. when those sick fucks who fight for fun pick on somebody else - that makes you mad. I was a scrawny little fucker so I had bullies fucking with me all the time. nothing makes you madder than somebody hitting you for no reason. it makes you mad as hell. you don't think about what you're doing when you are mad as hell - you just channel your anger into blows or bites or whatever seems like it might work. you become a bag of cats.
a couple of times I saw surprise or fear on the faces of the guys beating me up. they still kicked my ass but they thought I must be CRAZY. crazy is scary even in a little scrawny guy.
people tried to teach me "stand like this, punch like that" but it was wasted unless you had boxing gloves or something and bullies aren't interested in fair fights.

"Always get the first punch in!". Anyone get this advice for their da or maybe their ma when it came to being bullied or fighting in school? I was never in a fight in school, something that i kinda regret. I think it's a tough brutal life lesson, but part of me would still like to have gone through it. However my da never talked to me about this stuff, but i've heard my friends say their da's have. Get in first Always go for the nose liver shot....no one expects the liver shot When he's done you better back off. If you start something (the son), i'll finish it when i see you (the father). Have/Would you say this to your children now? I wouldn’t say that no. But I remember my dad telling me that no matter how big the bastard you’re up against, don’t walk away, you will have your shot to hit back at least once.

Kindergarten Cop is a guilty pleasure of mine. This is one of my favorite scenes. The end of the scene is great.

My favorite line from the movie: “it’s NOT a TOOMA!”
