I didn't think it was hilarious and I only watched about half of it, but I had no trouble believing that those exchanges happened. Always with white people though? Are all Afro American completely enlightened in their understanding of the nuances of Indian culture? It's that kind of broad brushed stereotyping that annoys people I think rather than the specifics of what she's saying, which might well be valid.

Who she knows probably speaks to economics, and also the larger generic white mainstream is easier and safer to lampoon than other demographics.

It appeals to white people who have a sense of guilt and shame, not to mention self-loathing which appears to be a marketable demographic these days.

It's just people. Anybody who has traveled a bit will know the daft shit people say to you if you come from a different cultural background; the odd questions they ask, the near total ignorance etc. People say shit to get a convo going, to enquire, to fill the air you know but there is a difference between shit like that and things said with some kind of malicious intent designed to denigrate and belittle in a way that could be indicative of actual racist beliefs.
It's not a white person thing, it's a people thing ffs.

I find mostly it appeals to other kids, young adults who have a limited context. This is very mild stuff, almost more about manners than real racism. But, she is a gateway to possibly more nuanced and complex discussions, even about a light skinned brown minority woman that probably passes in most white contexts, and the caste discrimination that exists amongst Indians in the US (but not necessarily in the wider US demographic).

Harvard University is the latest U.S. school to add measures protecting caste-oppressed students following a push from graduate workers and a national organization.
Since March, South Asian graduate student organizers have tried to point out to the university's administration what they say is a real problem on campuses across the U.S.: discrimination based on the Hindu caste system.

Sure - going after that lucrative minority market. You are clueless And you tend to stoop to personal insults when you can't think of anything rational to say. Which is with increasing frequency.
