Leg of Lamb is downright heroic there, btw. He was always articulate and unfailingly polite, no matter how vehement his stance. I miss that guy.

They edged forward, finally, after years. The BBs were winning for most of the time. Did you read Davey, Matt W, Baron et al? Davey gonna Davey, Matt gonna Matt, Baron gonna Baron. Personally I think there's a lot of thoughtful posts and a lot of biased ones on both sides. And plenty of people on both sides at once, like me, and Quaco. I will never not find it funny that you complain about lack of debate, then when it happens you complain about the tone of the debate. Well, when it's 'I feel sorry for people who are clinging on to outdated rock myths' and 'I got over the Velvets years ago' then yeah, I'm going to complain! Fun, tho'. (in case you think I've steam coming out of my ears )

Hopefully you’ve let go of a few outdated rock myths in the time since that thread.

I've learnt to ignore Beach Boys fans

I’ll come at this a different way than on the other thread...
I just think The Beach Boys vocal stack is one of the greatest things in all recorded music - and it is the difference maker here.

VU, every day.
I love a LOT of BBs records very very much, so there is nothing anyone could say that would make me love them more than i already do. Early period, late period, there is stuff i love everywhere. The songs, the music, the voices, top shelf.
But if i have to vote on which means more to me, my gut tells me VU.

I like The Beach Boys beards. Much cooler than Sterling Morrison's tache!

Déjà vu, or maybe déjà écrit, all over again. Anyone coming to the Beach Boys after the release of Pet Sounds/Good Vibrations is going to have a different vision (audion?) of them than I acquired from 1962-66, when they were a rock&roll/surf group that 'borrowed' Chuck Berry riffs and put daft teen celebration lyrics over the top, or made heartfelt yet wet teen ballad songs of longing, and smothered both with some great falsetto voices/harmonies and recorded them in my favourite studios with my favourite session musicians. While they never quite reached the goofy heights of Jan and Dean, they were putting out five or six dood to great singles (not many clunkers) a year as well as highly ignorable albums full of daft filler. While Good Vibrations and Heroes and Villains capped the run, Pet Sounds and Brian's illness basically destroyed the band's momentum and appeal for me. That said, although the Velvets never made any singles, they did make half a dozen fine to wonderful albums (and no I'm not counting Squeeze)all of which had brilliant stand-out tracks, and all of which had really fine lyrics and/or washes of sound that fitted my late teens and early 20s like a glove
