I usually chime in that I hate 'em but a lot of that is just venting. they were the soundtrack of Square America when I was growing up. I associate (ha!) that music with Guys who had patches on their elbows and sideburns who wanted to have "rap sessions" ugh.
suddenly the soundtrack of Square America sounds pretty good. I'll admit to "Along Comes Mary" but I reserve the right to make more snarky remarks at their expense.

That's pretty much killed me every single time I've heard it. Extraordinary tune.

Never My Love is probably in my top 10 favorite songs of all time. But you’ve heard that. Here’s my favorite deep track:

Six or seven guys, all of whom sang and wrote... it's kind of amazing that they managed to find their own sound and maintain it. (And that they recorded so much outside material.)
I'm a fan, although their albums tend to be patchy (to put it charitably).
But their Greatest Hits is an uncommonly great Greatest Hits. I tried to pick five from it. I couldn't narrow it down that far.
So here's five favorite deep cuts, starting with their flop follow-up to "Cherish"...
I do understand that some if not all of these will make some if not all of you gag.
Hey... sorry.

For a couple of years at the end of the sixties they were on fire, I thought. That mix of square harmony vocals with some left-field instrumentation and playing and sometimes quite edgy lyrics was a winner. do have a couple of albums, but don't think you need to go beyond the singles, and I never heard anything post 1970. The two absolute stand-outs for me were 1 Pandora's Golden Heebie-Jeebies 2 Along Comes Mary
then loads that kind of mush together in my memory that I can't separate. I was never particularly fond of Cherish or Windy, but these three are probably the best of the rest for me Never My Love Requiem for the Masses (protest music, man) Time for Living

i love 'windy'.
such a wonderful breezy swinging 60s number, made even better because an instrumental version played out the SeX PisTOLs appearance on the today programme.

Fantastic singles group. Many great calls so far, Mary, Never, Pandora; a personal fave is their version of One Too Many Mornings, the voices slay me every time.

High comedy, seeing Siouxsie and her pals dance while Grundy slumps as the credits roll. The greatest TV moment of the 20th century.

I don't know why it often gets omitted from their best work. It's the most stirring thing they ever did. The way the harmonies keep peaking lifts the spirits to celestial heights!
