I only just learnt that Rod Argent played the piano on "Who Are You". And I learned it 17 minutes after you did!

He's new to me. That track has a lot of the same feel as "Clean Up Woman" - I had to check and see which came out first! (Answer: Spencer's by more than a year.) Funny that he didn't get snapped up by Stax - his career might've gone a lot better if he had been.

I only just learnt that "Johnny" Williams (later to write the film scores for the Star Wars movies and much else) played the piano on the original "Peter Gunn Theme" recording(s).

Joe Pesci - yes, that Joe Pesci - used to play guitar in the 60s, and at one point was playing in Joey Dee & the Starliters (of 'Peppermint Twist' fame), though i'm not sure if he played on that record.

A black guy playing surf. I had no idea. And props to the sax player, who was prepared to wave his instrument about when he doesn't feature on the record .

Every time I see Ray's "only the lonely?" thread title, I think of the Motels song of that name - which, unlike the like-named Roy Orbison classic, I've never owned, haven't heard since it was a hit (1984?), and couldn't sing you more than a few lines of if you put a gun to my head. But the chorus is only two lines, and those are the lines that come to mind when I see the thread title.
The mind is a funny thing.

We walked the loneliest mile We smiled without any style We kiss altogether wrong No intention We lied about each other's drinks We lived without each other thinking What anyone would do Without me and you They played that and "Suddenly last summer" a ton when I was a kid..Videos were in deep rotation for a time as well..I can remember these two opening verses, even though I haven't heard the song in years..

I actually enjoyed both songs at the time - but retained no lyrics from either, beyond the choruses.
