If you could make love to one famous person who would it be? - Halle Berry. But I would not go for a ride with her before or after.
Pork or Beef? - No.
Cheese or dessert? - Yes, please. Preferably both at once. Not too often for either - got to watch my boyish figure - but cheese more often.
You get served some food at a restaurant and it's pretty bad. Do you complain? If not, why not? - Depends. If I'm paying a lot, or if it's 'supposed' to be good, I will return it and order something else. More likely, if I'm just out the cost of a lunch or whatever, I will just make a mental note not to go back there.
If you could change one decision in your life would what it be? - God, a ton of them. Probably first and foremost - trying to be a musician for a living. I wasn't very good at it - I continue to be terrible at self-promotion - and once I settled in to my 'day job' I was making more money than most of the musicians I knew anyway, even the 'successful' ones. And that's without much in the way of qualifications, other than (he says modestly) good instincts and natural intelligence. I wish I had a college degree, but there was no way I had the follow-through to do it in my 20s, and past that, well...a guy's gotta make a living.
Who's your favourite sports person? - Clayton Kershaw. Not just the best pitcher of his generation, but also a religious person that takes the remit to "do good in the world" seriously. It helps that he's a Methodist and not a fundie like most athletes.
Tell us about an encounter with a famous person... - I met Leonard Cohen a few times. Quiet, dignified, witty - a total gentleman. Yeah, not a very dramatic story, I realize. But I'm not the starstruck type (which I think Len appreciated) - I'm more likely to talk about the weather than their art with folks that are (cliché alert) human first, same as me.
What would your dream job be? - Film critic. I've actually gotten paid for it a few times, and (again modestly) I think I'm quite good at it. Maybe if I'd been born 50 years earlier.
Do you think you have underachieved or overachieved in life? Why? - Underachieved, without a doubt. I have all kinds of confidence in my abilities to do everything but convince other people I do them well.
Would you rather go out for a nice meal or to watch a great film? - Can't choose. They're both things I've always loved to do. Probably (as others have said) meal for a social event, film if alone.
If you could punch anybody in the face and get away with it who would it be? - Trump. Repeatedly. I might even do it if I don't get away with it, as long as I would just be punished for assault and it wouldn't put my life in danger (which I know isn't possible)
How would you like to die? - Holding my wife's hand (with us both at a very advanced age, dying within minutes of each other).
What's your favourite car? - '66 Mustang Convertible (solid color - maybe green or purple - none of that striping BS.

If you could make love to one famous person who would it be? As a semi-demisexual, I don't have sexual fantasies about famous people
Pork or Beef? Been a vegetarian since I met thangy. Before that, though, pork was the most interesting to cook and eat
Cheese or dessert? As a vegetarian, cheese is a main course not an afterthought, and I don't realy do two or three course meals, so N/A
You get served some food at a restaurant and it's pretty bad. Do you complain? If not, why not? I once complained about a rubbish breakfast I had in a hotel, but that's the only time I remember ever having anything to really complain about
If you could change one decision in your life would what it be? Like Mimsy, all the paths I took at crisis points in my life brought me hear, and I wouldn't want to change any of them
Who's your favourite sports person? Changes over time. Probably Muhammad Ali, although not for particularly sporting reasons
Tell us about an encounter with a famous person... I very briefly worked at a market research call centre just north of Oxford Street in the 1980s. Leaving the office (which was in some kind of converted residential building) one day, I opened the front door to be confronted by Ian Paisley on his way in. I shrank back. Evil coming off him in waves. I also had one or two nod and grunt encounters with Dennis Nielsen when we were both walking our dogs in the local park, although of course this was before he was famous.
What would your dream job be? My pat answer to this question has always been 'aristocrat'. I don't mind putting in an effort, particularly creating things, but I never wanted a job, not to be bossed, or for that matter to be a boss: which is why I retired at 30
Do you think you have underachieved or overachieved in life? Why?
I honestly don't know how to answer this. I understand the notion of achievement, but how that can be assessed as over or under baffles me, suggests objectivism or a belief in fate. I never had ambition, except in the vaguest sense of wanting to create things, neverf had a sense of destiny. Basically, I'm 72 on Friday, still here, still fit, still busy, still interested in what happens next, have loved and been loved, never been particularly interested in money or possessions, still have several friends of decades standing (and indeed falling over).
Would you rather go out for a nice meal or to watch a great film? Stay home. Haven't been to the cinema more than a dozen or so times in the last 40-odd years, although I was mad keen before then. Never been to a fancy restaurant.
If you could punch anybody in the face and get away with it who would it be? I haven't hit anybody since Graham Dindol when I was 11. That said, you.
How would you like to die? Not particularly: not yet
What's your favourite car? Blue ones

I very briefly worked at a market research call centre just north of Oxford Street in the 1980s. Was it called Audience Selection or something like that? If it was I was there briefly too. Terrible place!

Terrible place! May have been – long time ago and I only did a week or so, maybe less. Tottenham Court Road end of Oxford Street. It was the early 80s. And it was, indeed, terrible.

GRATE THREAD.
If you could make love to one famous person who would it be? an older woman who is still pretty hot and could quickly wear me out. can you show me something in a Charlize Theron?
Pork or Beef? BEEF. GLAARF. WOOF. GROWL (eyes roll into top of head)
Cheese or dessert? if you mean for afters then dessert. if you mean I can have only one for the rest of my life then I'm afraid I might need to kill you.
You get served some food at a restaurant and it's pretty bad. Do you complain? If not, why not? how bad? I might ask "is it supposed to be like this?" if it's just bad food then I chalk that up to poor planning on my part. I might stand in front of the place and holler about how horrible it is through a pignose amp but I doubt I'd complain to the staff.
If you could change one decision in your life would what it be? Not spending more time with people I loved when they wanted me to.
Who's your favourite sports person? Cassius Clay/Muhammed Ali. I'm not really a sports guy but this guy had it all. He was great at what he did. his career was full of surprises he was an entertaining and thought provoking character. even his long slow undoing he seemed to handle well. there have been some sports giants in my lifetime but he's really the only one I think I truly appreciate sharing a timeline with.
Tell us about an encounter with a famous person... Jack Nicholson, Harry Dean Stanton, Tom Waits & the World's Biggest Asshole came up to the snack bar in the theatre where I was working about 5 minutes after the movie started. Jack & Harry talked among themselves while the World's Biggest Asshole bossed me and my co-workers around. He said things like "make it snappy!" and "I haven't got all day" while Tom hung his head. As Big Asshole, Jack & Harry moved towards the theatre doors Tom lagged behind. "gimmee a boxa Junior Mints" he told me as he unpeeled some greasy singles from a wad. "you know, he's really not such a bad guy" he said then caught up with the others.
What would your dream job be? getting paid good money to write nonsense on message boards.
Do you think you have underachieved or overachieved in life? Why? under. way under. I'm the under wonder. I'm a lazy sum-bitch.
Would you rather go out for a nice meal or to watch a great film? in a perfect world you could do both but maybe I don't want the people who worked on the film to see me putting it away. straight answer: Film but a snack would be nice.
If you could punch anybody in the face and get away with it who would it be? I would like to bank this. Give me a little orange "monopoly" card with the right to punch somebody in the face on it. I'll put it in my wallet. I think it'll put a spring in my step knowing that I have it.
How would you like to die? I'm pretty sure I know how I'm going to die. dozens of times in my life I have looked up while driving and gone "Oh Shit" I thought that was it. I thought I was dead. dozens of times I've managed to live when it seemed pretty obvious that I was dead. I think I'm pretty overdrawn at the "oh shit" Bank. one day I'll look up and go "oh shit" and that'll be it.
What's your favourite car? I'm not really a car guy so most of the cars I like are pop culture things. you know, Batmoblie, Munsters car, stuff like that. That Jag hearse in "harold and maude" is pretty nice. I'm not really a "hot car" guy though. I like some of those old Nash's & Studebakers and things like that. cars that look like you could take a blow torch to them and not make a scratch.

HOW many years have I read your posts on these boards, Snee? And NOT ONCE have you ever mentioned this! Great little story, anyway.

Good question. I’ll tell you who disappointed me the most - Harry Dean Stanton. You expect Jack Nicholson to let a guy boss people around for him. I guess I expected more from Harry.
the bad thing about celebrity retail stories is that mainly they just buy a pack of gum like anybody else. They’re fun to tell though because there’s something kind of Zen about it.
