Typically five or six tabs open. Music not playing usually. No pinwheel. Updates? I'll check. I have up to 40 tabs, maybe more, open at once, no problems. Never had the problem with facebook and memory you mentioned, or indeed had that message about any site. I'd chuck facebook personally . Apple help are usually very supportive - did you buy it new and get it registered? The font size thing - generally Command + increases font size, Command - makes it smaller. Sorry you're having trouble - much the same way as I cannot cope in any way with PCs, but I've been using Macs, initially for work, for 25 years or so.
Also, if you pull down from the apple in the top left corner to 'about this mac' and click on 'support' when you get a new menu in the pop-up screen you can access the handbook and various bits of trouble-shooting.

You've had it a day or two? Possible to return it?
Mac stores usually have classes, usually free on how to work a mac, may want to see if they are available.
Using Safari may help with seizing and delay issues.

I can understand what John's going through. I had to use a Mac for a year at work and could never adjust to it. It just seemed much less intuitive than a pc. It put me off ever buying one to be honest.

I've had it just over two weeks. Apple give full refunds, no questions asked, if you return it within two weeks!
I use Safari, nothing else. Maybe downloading Chrome will be easier for me. I dunno. I'm going to look for a local buyer.

It put me off ever buying one to be honest. I use both PC and Mac. And yes, Mac has become less intuitive as their eye has moved onto phones, apps, etc., Numerous OS upgrades hog hard drive space with seemingly little improvements. They are very robust for the internet, with lots of internal safeguards, but PCs have come along way and have gotten quite user friendly. Bang for your buck, one can usually get more PC than mac for the same amount of money. Mac sacrifices power to give you a great screen and/or graphics, 8GB Ram should be fine, but 12 or 16 would probably be better with an i5/i3 processor.

It put me off ever buying one to be honest. I use to exclusively work on Macs as they dominate in graphics and publishing industries. The last 15 years, all PCs. Macs are easier to work on if you have technical problems with your computer, but I've found they are finicky. Safari sucks as a browser.

Using Safari may help with seizing and delay issues. The only use for Safari is to download Firefox.

The thing's up for sale.
The sooner it's out of my house the better.
Onwards and upwards!

I probably wouldn't be as rigid in changing to a PC now as I was 10 years ago. I've had Macbooks and Powerbooks since 2004 and they are solid machines, but I don't think there's any doubt that PC laptops have come on a huge amount in the last 5 years.
There is a sense that "stuff just works" on Macs - I've never had a single issue on one that wasn't solved by just adding more RAM.
As to how they're not intuitive, I guess that's just down to how you adapt to a new OS.

I've never been keen on Macs and for all I do with a lappy - internet, itunes - there is no need for a Mac really, as nice looking as they are. I'm on a phased return at work so I'm off Thursday and Friday and the lass and I are planning on camping at Gullane as the weather is meant to be mega Friday. It's not exactly wild camping but it's a beautiful spot and I'm looking forward to sitting in the sun doing sfa except drinking some cans. I might take along my sketch pad too.
