Just finished my first read-through/editing job on my wife's first novel, which she's been writing since Christmas. As yet untitled, it's a seaside cottage chick-lit romance thing, and it's a bit bloody massive for that genre. Still, even as a lousy husband and all-round cynical git, I thought it was pretty good, it kinda signposts where it's going, but I believe that's the intention with this kind of thing, and it wraps up the sub-plots to a climactic happy ending thing well. No idea how far she'll take it to try and get a proper publishing deal, or whether she'll crumble and self-publish on amazon.
The daft thing is, she went on a literary lunch thing with Milly Johnson the other week, to see if she'd be inspired to push for a proper publishing deal. Thirty-odd quid a ticket. We went to a family get-together this weekend, and it turns out her cousin's husband (who we see frequently) knows Milly Johnson quite well, and used to work with her at Hallmark. Said he could have just told us when they were next out, and we could have gone along.

Found a really good free file compression site. Our product director always sticks tons of graphics and product images in his Powerpoint presentations and asked me to help. Even when I compressed all the images in Powerpoint, it was still big, 7MB from 13MB. This site compressed it down to 2MB. www.wecompress.com/en/

Last night I dreamed that I was dating Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She's probably looking for someone to pay for her $9 croissants and figures since your'e nearer Quebec than she is, you can probably get a deal.

Is 'Tory' and 'Lugubrious True Blue Tory' some kind of Pokemon evolution?

When Frank Bough started presenting the BBC's breakfast show in 1983, he was younger than I am now

People looked older back then though. It's like you see pictures of 20 somethings in the 1930s and they look about 45!

When I were a lad it were all fields around here people my age now were usually dead, or well on the way; bent, withered, creased, supported by sticks, and garlanded with prosthetics.

I got my first gout attack for the first time last year about this same time. For 6-8 months, I was good and didn't drink and eat certain foods. I've been slowly backsliding without repercussions until this weekend. I've been retoxifying all my detoxifying and it came back to bite me in the ass.
Back to detox. I brought in all my lunchmeat, including salami, and tomatoes, to work and some women is taking them for her kids' lunches. And no more drinking.

I think I need to cut down on my coffee, not because it's keeping me awake but rather sitting on the toilet 5 times day isn't that much fun.

I was in the local used record store on Sunday and I was talking to the owner. His old help no longer works there and the owner was complaining he works seven days a week now, which is a bummer, because he has smaller children.
I told my daughter about it and she's game and is going to go to the store and talk to him.
He said the biggest obstacle is people will come in to sell their records and you need to know how to price them on the spot because no one wants to bring boxes or crates of records back.
