Is he a good actor? I've kinda gone off him a bit. He seems to play the same characters over and over again. The only thing that changes is the growling or shouting tone of his voice. From Bronson, Krays, Peak blinders, Capone, the reverent, taboo, bane, they're pretty much the same type of character. He grunts and shouts his way through them.
Thoughts?

I like him. I don't expect to see him with a monocle and an ascot anytime soon but there are others who are good at that sort of thing. Here's what I like about him - you can see him thinking. it sounds stupid to single out but I think it's easy to buy actors as the characters they’re playing when you can feel like they are really in the character's skin.
I won't argue that those skins are pretty similar but who knows? there might be a monocle and an ascot in his future.

I really like him. He's got a real on screen charisma. One of the most purely watchable actors working today. Matthew McCounaghy has a similar quality I think.

I don't know, Craig is a handsome bastard, but he also looks like he has been in a scrap or two. Connery had the same look i reckon. The like of Moore, Bronson and Dalton looked too english gentlemanly. Hardy is too pretty, i think Craig changed the game in this regard, and they should look for someone with the same look.

I think he's a good actor, but he seems kinda show offy to me, where Hardy is anything but. McConaughey is a movie star in that way, like Bogart or Holden - he's always McConaughey. Hardy seems to become whatever character he's playing.

He always seems to play mouthy London types. Not the most versatile actor, or am I missing something

Aye he's turning in to that. I haven't seen his capone film, but i'm guessing it's "mouthy london type" but with a Chicago accent.

He was great in The Drop which was about as far from 'mouthy London type' as it's possible to get

I really liked him in Tinker, Tailor too, even though I thought it was a dull film. He brought a real romantic desperation to the character of Ricky Farr and was the most memorable thing in it. Clearly there's a lot more to him than playing London gangsters

There was a bit of mumbling, yeah. But not in all scenes.
It was the first thing I saw him in and I didn't even realise he was British.

It was the first time I'd noticed him. Looking at his filmography, I'd already seen him in Layer Cake and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. I just hadn't been arsed to look him up.
